Chicago, June 13. The lMttsburs Dis-
fatcli says that Chairman Jones, of the re
publican national committee, has in his
possession a third letter which he has just
received from Ii'aine in Scotland.and which
is to be read upon the assembling of the
national convention Tuesday. In it Blaine
states most emphatically that he will not
allow the use of his name in convention,
and that he would not accept the nomina
tion.though it were tendered him unani
mously. Jones arrived here this morning,
and says he never received such a letter.
Trouble.
Taco.ma ,W. T.June 13. There has been
trouble at the Tacoma Ceal and Coke Com
pany's mines, which, until to-day, has been
kept so quiet that mone of the newspapers
had heard of it. According to the acc.unt
given by A. C. Smith, president of the com
pany, the affair came near resulting in the
lynching of J. W. Kelly.

San Francisco, June 13. The aggre
gate morality in ninety towns of the state
forthe past month of May numbers 1O35,
in an estimated population of 735,90 in
habitants. This is considered a good show
ing, as compared with the morality in East
The sanrome court haa unanimously de
clared the local-option law unconstitutional,
on th. technical ground that the Constitution
provides (Article 4, Section 20) teat no law
shall embrace more than one object, which
shall be embodied in i' title; that the real
object of the local-option law, entitled "An
a:t to regulate the manufacture and sale of
liquor, is not pioperJy stated in its line.
This decision will corely disappoint large
numbers of the opponents of the liquor traiiic,

rain, which lasted three hours.at Tresmill.ln
the state of Zacatecas, last night. Houses
were washed away, and three persons
drowned. Many houses were badly dam
aged. Immense hailstones caused much
damage. There is one metre of water in
the streets. The governor is giving aid to
the sufferers.
