Committee reported on survey of sewer far Baker St. and instructed Recorder to advertise for bids for the same. Committee reported that bidi for bridge on Sherman plan, at ythand Vine street, had been opened and were as fellows : I F lladley, 40ft. bridge, $105.00 ; W E Kel. ley, 30 ft. briege, $105.00 ; W E Kelley, 40 ft. bridge, $140.00. Contract let to Mr Hadlev. Committee brought up report on petition of W E Turrell and others for change of grade on 7th east of Lyon, and the same was continued. Street Commissioner recommended that flume on Lyon Street be repaired and tht a large number of sidewalks be repaired. A bill amending the Ordinance previd ing for sewer on Railroad street was read third time and unanimously passed. Application and bond, of 4Hale Backcn sto for license to sell liquors for six months was read and granted. Jiids for sewer across I erry itreet and in Black 9 were opened, and w ere as follows : Jas Laurent, across Ferry St., 74c. per foot; in block 9, 50c. per faot ; Davidson &: Raincv, acrors Ferry street, $1.25 per foot; n bleck 9, 70 cents per foet. Bid of Mr Laurent accepted, and contract awarded to him. Ordered that time be extended fifteen Jays to property owners in bleck 9 for build- ing lateral sewer. Writsman moved that the Recorder be instructed to advertise for bids for Rail road street sewer, cement, terra cotta, or b.ick, 30 inch inside diameter of sewer. Ave Hofiman, Parker, writsman; IN Read, Gradwohl, Tabler. Mayor voted aye and declared motion carried. Hoffman moved that bids be advertised for sewer to 2nd and 3rd streets.- Carried unanimouslv. Hoffman moved that Recorder advertise or bids for sewer across Ellsworth street. Carried. Tabler moved that City Surveyor set prade for bridire at oth and Vine Street with grade of adjoining block on each side of brulire. 8 foot walk east No. l's encine house ordered. Repairing of bridge across Thurs. ton street referred. Repairing of Hume on Lvon street ordered, Commissioner to no tify Mr Crawford. Villar.1 Comini; Up. New York, May 22. At the Rnnual meeting of the Oregon & Trarscontinenta Company June iSth, it is understoed tha Henry Villard will be elected president of the company. An address will be issued to stockholders in Villard's namcjin which he states that having rendered assistance to the company in a critical stage of its af fairs, he now 'feels called upon to aid in securing mere satisfactory results in the future for stockholders. A Contrast. San francisco, May 23. A special to Examiner from Duluth, Minn., says: The steamer Ossifrage. which left this port last Saturday for Port Author, returned to day, having failed to reach her destination, on account of solid blue ice, which inter venes. She encounted twenty-one vesses firmly frozen in the ice and took off some people and brought them to Duluth. New York, May 21. The World pub lishes a long special from Agusta, Maine, toprcve that scheme for Blaine's nomina tion has been working for some time. Every act of Blaine's for the past year having been arranged beferehan'd even to his European trip. The scheme in brief is that Blaine's name is not to be formally presented to the contention. The first three or four ballots will be complimentary to the lfavorite sons." When this respect has been paid to half a dozen prominent candidates, Blaine will be nominated by acclamation.
