CUNNINGHAM. aa at mamma bhi,ii Candidate! for Snprcme The papers throughout the interior Jitve for a long timepastbeeu severely criticising various decisions of the Supremo Court of this State, ns organ ized by Judges Trim, Kelly, and Utofoe. Among the cases so criticised is tho case known as tho Walker-Teal case, and a case involving the title to the Canyon Road franchise, in the southern portion of Douglas county We have abstained from any part in these criticisms, believing that, the highest judicial tribune iu the State, even though deserving of censure, should not be degraded by tho public press; but it has transpired that P. Prim and J. K. Kelly have been nomi sated for re-election by the Democrat ic party, and they now ask the votes ef tho people of the State, to re-elect them to the offices they now hold. It therefore becomes necessary for the voters of the State to consider wheth er it is advisable to re-elect these men to the Supreme" bench. There is scarcely a lawyer in the State who does not admit, through waiif?gi knowledge or otherwise, the Court in these cases committed gioss blunders, and subjected themselves to the ridi cule and censure of not only the well informed people of our own State, but also of the public press of California. Judge Boise filed a dissenting opin iea i'a tho cases above referred to, and added to his reputation for integrity and legal ability by so doing. Our Supreme Court should bo above suspicion of want of integrity, or of weakness, or of ignorance. That tri tanal should command the support ei the people of the State, and it is ap parent from the public feeling that few been aroused against these men, Mid the suspicion is boldly expressed that these decisions were rendered through gross ignorance of the princi pk of law ffiHj of legal precedents. r through favoritism, is a good reason why these men 6hould not be re-elect ed. It is, and always has been admit ted, that neither of these men are wsll qualified for this office, and the feet that they have been generally Mured and suspected by the public, erta-iniy makes it improper for them to Ve re elected for the fall term, WaJdo, Watson, and Lord, whoso names appear on thoRepublican tick et, are mon of middle life, of good ac quirements and ability, and entirely above suspicion. It rests with tho in telUfent voters of the State to say whether we shall have a distrusted ftupffMe Court for tho next six years, by elating the old Court, or whether wehUliavoaCourt that will com mand rspect and confidence by tho elcUa of new men. Let tho people f Com and Curry county consider tfck subject well, and act, not from ; considerations, but with a to the welfare of the State, and i capable and honest judiciary. Thopcoplo mo becoming aroused on tho subject of the danger to our leading industry, tho coal trade, from possible action of tho Democratic par ty. To tako off tho duty on coal, as tho Democrats propose to do, would not only prevent tho opening of any now coal mines on tho const for tho next fifty years, but would shut down thoso already opened. But Mr. Siglin says "Thoro never was a party in tho United States in favor ot abolishing tho tariff on either articl enamed, and there is not now." This is another of Siglins shrewd (?) I misrepresentations. Tho Democratic party, and Mr. Siglin. aro in favor of abolishing tho tariff altogether at tho parlest no'sible moment. This is the 13th article in their platform, as pub lished in the same paper: That wo are opposed to any and all protective tariffs, and are in favor of a tariff for a revenuo only, and we pledge the Dcmocratio party to abolish all restrictions upon commerce as soon aa'possiblo. "As soon as possiblo" is when they propose to do tho the thing; that means as soon as they have tho power. If the laboring men, or thoso inter ested in our home industries of any kind, understand their truo interest, they will vote down the men who are committed by the platform to this doctrine. Tho Democrat who pre tends to discard any part of this plat form, is not to be trusted. The Lnbor lucUm. Ingersol has been studying the labor qucston and illustrates the; "irrcnrssiblo conflict" between la bor and capital as follows : "Here is a shoo shop. One man in the shop is always busily at work through tho day always indus trious. In tho evening ho goes courting a good, nice girl. There nre five other men in tho shop who don't do any such thing. They spend half their working hours iu loafing, and their evenings in dissi pation. This first young man by and by cuts out from these others and gets a shoe store of his own. Then he marries this girl. Soon he is able to take hi3 wife out riding of an evening. iiie inu wuuitis, mo M . iiirA InUnatnHO Itifi ' fonner companions, who sec him! indulging in his little luxury, retire to a neighboring saloon and pass a resolution that there is an eternal struggle between labor and capital."
