PAGE SIX Richard Wakeman on Kane creek which was held July 28 at their home. The wedding cake was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Brill of Myrtle Creek. Mrs. Bill is a sister of Mrs. Wakeman. Children of the couple who were present were Mr. and Mrs. Rol and Wakeman of Yreka and children Buddy, Ricky and Cathy; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wakeman and children Steven and Leslie of Kane creek. A daughter, Mary Adele Wake Blanche Johnson Wins Top Vote Mrs. Blanche Johnson of Cen tral Point received the first place popular vote during the Jackson ville Jubilee art show for her water color, “High Spirits.” Mrs. Johnson also received honorable mention for another water color, “Under the Cotton- Woods.” The show, sponsored by the Southern Oregon Society of Art ists, was well attended. A total of 541 signed the register. Visit ors were from Wisconsin, Wash ington, California, Illinois, Min nesota, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Florida and New Jersey. Second place winner was Mrs. Elizabeth Scheffield of Rogue River with her oil painting, “Wimer Bridge.” Third went to Mrs. Ada Andrews of Gold Hill for her oil, “Roses.” One interesting picture was painted in 1894 by Miss Sadie DeBoy of Gold Hill and titled “Portrait of a Rose.” It was loaned for display by Mrs. Pearl Whitney of Jacksonville. BOY FOR VANDE KAMP Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Vande- Kamp of Route 2, Central Point, are parents of a son bom Fri day, August 3, at Community hospital. Birth weight was 7 pounds, 12 ounces. GH Grangers Slate Picnic By Adah Jones GOLD HILL—At the Gold Hill Grange Aug. 2 meet the lecture hour was held at the opening. Pictures were showed by Carlos Morris and some moving pic tures of the Pear Blossom par ade in which the grange had entrants. Hal Bishop showed color slides of the Queen Connie Hanscom, and prize winning floats. The annual picnic was set for August 12 and to be held'at the Grants Pass park. Each one ask ed to bring fried chicken. Community project reports are almost ready to be sent in to the state office as all projects are progressing nicely. The HEC reported the need of a refrigerator, the grange left the purchasing up to the HEC. All members were reminded of the baazar and rummage sale which is an event to be held in October. The serving committee for August 16 will be the Christen sens and Sam Jones. Among the young summer camp groups are the youth from the Gold Hill Christian church, including Gordon Keller, Wanda Ackley, and Virginia Munday, attending the girls camp last week at Fir Point, near Glen dale. At boys camp this week are Steven Andrews and Larry THUSDAY. AUGUST 9. 1956 CENTRAL POINT AMERICAN. CENTRAL POINT. OREGON man of Chico was unable to at tend. Other relatives present were Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bailey of Ashland, and Mrs. Clara Bailey of Myrtle Creek. A cafeteria luncheon followed a mock shotgun wedding per formed by Maurice Bailey. The Wakemans moved to Kane creek about a year ago after living in California for many years. Memo from Reddy... Maerz. Lindel Munday expects to attend the older girls camp during the coming week. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Walker stop ped enroute from Ashland where Mrs. Walker has been attending summer sessions at SOCE, to call on their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Elliott. Mr. Walker is with the state land re-appraisal and formerly worked with Mrs. Eliott in Grant county. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Christen sen have as guests Mr. and Mrs. Ira Gates of Chico and Mrs. Gertrude Goring of Eugene, Mr. Gates is an uncle of Mrs. Christ ensen. Mrs. Boring has been teaching near Eugene for several years. All were enroute to Chico, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Al Beman have returned after spending several days vacation camping near the Lake of the Woods. Mr. Beman is care taker of the Gold Hill Hanby school building and for the past few weeks Mrs. Beman has been assisting at the swim ming pool at Hawthorne park. The Womans Society of Christ ian Service will meet at the Com munity Methodist church on Fri day afternoon at 1 o’clock. Of special interest Miss Grace Gail will give a, review of her week at Camp McGruder. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Martin of Vancouver, B. C. are guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Martin. Melvin is a nephew of Wilbur Martin. It was their first visit to the Martins home and to Oregon. An unpleasant ex perience in the form of a car collision occurred when Mrs. Wilbur Martin and Mrs. Melvin Martin were driving on Highway 99 north of Rock Point and were struck by another car. Mrs. Melvin Martin was hospitalized with a broken rib. The car was badly damaged on the side. Golden wedding anniversaries are always news in this day of short time mariages.
