Parents Attend
U of Exercise, ,
Son Wins Degree

GOLD HILL—Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Ferguson attended com­
mencement exercises at the Un­
iversity of Oregon where their
son, Richard A. Ferguson, re­
ceived his bachelor of science
degree. He is the third of the
family to graduate from the un­
iversity. Donald Jr., and Carma
Ferguson Lanford got their de­
grees a few years back. All are
graduates of Gold Hill high
school.
Mildred Gail, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Norman Gail, is hav­
ing an interesting vacation in
Mexico, after a year at the Un­
iversity of Washington. Miss
Gail was maid of honor at the
wedding of her friend Miss
Cathy Hartmus, at the Sweden-
borgian church in San Francisco,
on June 9. Miss Hartmus is the
niece of Mrs. Ed Bolt, Pacific
hwy north, and was married to
Ralph Moreno. After the wed­
ding, Miss Gail was invited to
return to Guadalojara, Mexico
and be the guest of the Hart­
mus family who reside in that
city. She will return to her
home north of Gold Hill in July.
Cast Ballots
Fourteen voters came out to
cast votes at the school election
held on Monday afternoon at
the school gym. Little interest
was evidenced, possibly because
the candidates this year were
not from this area.
Mr and Mrs. Al Fowler have
moved into the upstairs apart­
ments of Don Dusenberrys house
on 5th ave. Mr. and Mrs. Fowl­
er were married at Reno June 8
where Mrs. Fowler has relatives.
She is the former Nancy Mc­
Donough. daughter of Mr. and
Mrs C. W McDonough of Sams
Valley. A social community
shower was held Monday even­
ing at the Sams Valley grange
hall for the young couple.
Kenneth Bailey, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Wilme.r Bailey, is now sta­
tioned in Army base, Ft. Rich­
ardson. Alaska, near Anchorage.
He left from Ft. Lewis the last
of May and is in a heavy motor
outfit
Home for Summer
Johnnie McCoy, son of Mrs.
Ruth McCoy came home this
week to spend the summer with
his mother and family. Johnnie
has been living at the Children’s
Farm home near Corvallis the
past few years.
Mrs Dena Sects left last Fri­
day for Corvallis where she will
attend summer sessions at OSC.
Attending 4-H summer sessions
from the Gold Hill area are
Marilyn Hixson, daughter of Mr
and Mrs Ralph Hixson, and
Grace Gail, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Norman Gail Both girls
are in 4-H home economics
clubs
Recent guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs Robert Bowen were
Mr. and Mrs Dale Walter and
small baby. Mr. Walter is in
the navy and has been station­
ed at San Diego but will soon go
over seas. He is a nephew of
Mrs. Bowen
Farewell Dinner
A farewell dinner for Mrs Lee
Marsden Jr., and son Skip was
enjoyed at the F.lmer Dungey
home last Friday evening. Those

Mrs. Marsden and son are
leaving Sunday for Utah by
way of Canada, where she will
join her husband. Marsden is
employed by the Southern Pa­
cific at Ogden as a construction
engineering inspector.
Mrs. J. B. Molloy and son have
spent the past week at the Elmer
Dungey home on 6th ave. Mr.
Molloy arrived Friday night to
visit over the week end before
returning with his wife and son
to Portland.
Mrs. T. Robinson Jr., honored
her niece, Sandra McMichael,
with a birthday party on her
12th birthday on Tuesday at her
home on 4th ave. Two large
birthday cakes were of special
interest to the young guests who
included Jimmy and Marilyn
McCoy, Emmett Clark, Jan New­
land, Erma Lee Governor, Rand­
all and Frankie McMichael.
The afternoon was spent play­
ing games.
Home from Hospital
Mrs. Maxine Englebrecht, re­
turned Saturday from Sacred
Heart hospital where she spent
several days as a patient, re­
quiring several blood transfu­
sions. Mrs. Englebrecht operates
the truck cafe and has been
assisted by Mrs. H. Haviland,
Mrs. Ruby Quakenbush and Mrs.
Vernon Waterhouse.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Dungey re­
turned Tuesday after vacation­
ing in California where they
visited Mrs. Dungey’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mott of Oxn­
ard. Mrs. Dungey’s daughter,
Sue, returned with them.
Mrs. Walter Hunter and her
mother, Mrs. John Cameron of
Cottage Grove, visited relatives
in Gold Hill on Wednesday.
Mrs. Iva Lentz returned Tues­
day from San Francisco where
she had been to see her son,
Warrant Officer Lawrence “Hap­
py” Lentz, who was brought
back from Germany to enter
Letterman Army hospital for
treatment. Lentz was having
back trouble and may undergo
surgery.
Son for Mays
Friends of Mrs. Ethel and Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Mays, now of
Tularosa, Mexico, have received
announcements of the birth of
a baby boy to Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Mays on June 8, weight 6 lbs.
and 6 ounces, named Michael
Gene. The mother was formerly
Janet Harris, who lived in Gold
Hill where she graduated from
high school. Maternal grand
mother, Mrs. Chas. Harris, lives
in Central Point. Paternal grand
mother, Mrs. Ethel Mays, rec­
ently sold her property in Gold
Hill and moved to Tularosa.
Miss Rose Drake of Lazy Acres
has a house guest for a few
weeks, Miss Lonna Schenck of
Gardena, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. D. N. Flippen
of Redlands, Calif., left last
Thursday after spending several
days with Mrs. Flippen’s mother,
Mrs. Myrtle Reel.

Medfordite Spends
Time in City Jail
Vern L. Johnson of 1501 North
Riverside, Medford, was arrest­
ed Sunday, June 17, by city
police officers on a charge of
being drunk and disorderly.
Johnson was fined $20 and
spent two days in the city jail.
MRS. SCOTT HOME
Mrs. Elizabeth Scott returned
to her home Tuesday accompa­
nied by her daughter, Mrs. J. J.
Swain. Mrs. Scott spent four
weeks visiting in New York,
Pennsylvania, New Jersey and
Ohio. Mrs. Swain and her hus­
band recently returned to the
United States from Japan. She
will visit relatives here until
August and then join her hus­
band, who has been assigned to
duty in Florida.
