PAGE FOUR Picnic Dinner Fetes Rev. Bowers At GH on Snnday * • By Adah Jones GOLD HILL — Around 75 people gathered in the dining room of the Community Meth odist church Sunday after church services for a picnic dinner hon oring Rev. and Mrs. Everett Bowers and family. Rev. Bowers held his last ser vice as pastor and an appointed minister will be at the church after the church conference, which is being held at Portland Methodist church this First week. Mrs. Lawrence Smith left Monday evening as a delegate to the Methodist conference from the Gold Hill church. Nearly $40 was contributed at the coffee hour held by the pri mary Sunday school class of the Community Sunday school last Monday morning at the home of one of the teachers Mrs. Paul Molloy. Other teachers of the class are Mrs. Melvin Burnett and Mrs. Schoenamon. Mr. and Mrs. Frank McMicheal and children, Sandra, Randall, Frank Jr. and Patrick and Mr. Benjaman Clark and son Junior all of Denver, Colo, have moved into the George Martin property west of the Hanby school. Mrs. McMichael is a sister to Mrs. “Roby” Tom Robinson of Gold Hill. Mr. Clark is a stepfather of Mr. McMicheal. Mr. and ■ Mrs. Jos Suiter of Roseburg and Mrs. Pearl Cody of Wichita. Kansas, called on Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Jones last Tues day for a very pleasant visit. Mrs. Cody and Mr. Suiter are brother and sister and went to school in Gove county Kansas with Mrs. Jones. The Suiters now have a building supply bus- isness at Roseburg. Ora. funds The group met at the home of Mrs. Paul Molloy on Monday morning, visited homes and returned to the Molloy home for pot luck lunch. Mrs. Parsley, Mrs. Molloy, Mrs. Norman Gail. Mrs. Paul Thompson, Mrs. Cecil Johnson and Mrs. Lester Parker made up the group. Mrs. Don Morrow was called to Oxnard. Calif., last week by the death of her father, Norman Hames on Saturday. The body was shipped to Paris, Ark. for burial. Mrs. Morrow went with relatives to Arkansas for the ser vices. Mrs. James Clement took care of the Morrow baby, Donald Wayne, during her absence. • Mr. anti Mrs. Romulo Corona and family, who have been liv ing in the Harney house on the river front have bought the Stanley Robbins property on 5th ave. below the Hanby school. Mrs. Ruth Harney, who has been teaching in Glendale the past year, has returned to Gold Hill to live on her river front property. Mrs. James Eldred and chil- dren and Mrs. Ed Tulare and children made a trip to Cayon- ville last week where Mrs. Eld red visited relatives and also her doctor at the clinic there. She found she needed special med ical attention so returned this week for an overnight stay and treatment. Crater Students Win Awards at Assembly Tuesday Annual awards assembly at Crater High school was held Tuesday afternoon, May 22. The assembly was opened with installation of new student body officers. They are: Ron Harrison, president; Dave Parker, vice president; Karen Johnson, sec retary; Kay Johnson, treasurer, and Jim Estremado, business manager. Joan VonderHellen and Calvin Gillespie received Danforth Foundation awards presented by Principal Arthur Straus. Journal ism awards, presented by Miss Geraldine White, went to Vicki Noel, Bonnie Sears, Joan Vonder Hellen, Juanita Swindler, Dave Setness and Donna Eskew. Art awards, presented by War ren Holbrook, were given to Ruth Thurman and Dean Sloan with an honorable mention to Bobby Lance. Donna Eskew was named girl of the year with the award presented by Mrs. Carol Ash. Senior social studies awards went to Juanita Swindler and Joe Shelton. Presentation was made bv Clarence Mellbye. Yell leader and Honor Society awards were made by John Smock. Honor societv members are: Seniors—Carol Bailey, Nor man Barnes. Marilyn Pauli and Carol Russell; Juniors—Janet Anderson, Benita Bentley, Kath ryn Coe. Bruce Burnett. Robert Elden. Sally Elden, Max Fred rick, Grace Gail, Carl Koellner, Karen Johnson. A. Meyer has announced. The six weeks school will be gin June 11, Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon five days a week. Primary classes will be held in the room of Mrs. Oakley Bow ers; intermediate classes will be held in the room of Mrs. Frances Tonn. Upper grades classes will be held in the rooms of Annette Fellers and Miss Patricia Greb.’ Mrs. Corine Robbins plans to relax a little and to travel a little. Richard Traylor will teach this summer and make fishing trip into Canada. Mrs. Grace Cline has no def inite plans for the summer. Mrs. Rhoda Haskins will be home most of the summer with short trips to the lake to catch a few fish. Mrs. Zelma Foote plans to be around Central Point most of the summer. She will attend the NEA convention in Portland the first week of July. The last week of August'her family will spend at Little Cultus lake. Mrs. Nina Hooper will go to Canada for two weeks, to Los Angeles for two weeks to see Disneyland and also bring her son home from the Marines to stay. She will be at home the remainder of the summer. Mrs. Lois Webb may go to Canada after July 15. Miss Ailene Inlow will attend a two- week workshop and then be at home. Mrs. Helen Johnson will stay at home and relax this summer. Mrs. Olive Manley will drive to Michigan. Annette Fellows hopes to relax and to take one summer school class. Miss Pa tricia Greb may attend summer school. Mrs. Maurine Shore will take a two week vacation trip, TR 4~H Members Given Pins, Thimbles Thimles, pencials and 4-H pins were handed out to members of the Table Rock 4-H Home maknig club at their recent meeting by Mrs. Meyers, leader, Sharon Allred became a new member of the club at this meet ing. Glenna Brown presided at the meeting. Aletta Meyers lead the flag salute. Girls worked on their projects after the meeting. Anita Pierce, reporter possibly into Canada. Mrs. Willette McLarrin will at tend summer school and then be on the ranch. Mrs. Louisa Cane reported that she will attend a summer school session and gold mine. Mrs. Shirley Weber has no definite plans for the summer. Elgan Amidon will attend sum mer schopl and get in some fish ing.
