THURSDAY. MAY 31. 1956 Graders Presented Awards on Friday At Annual Assembly Awards assembly at Central Point Junior High school was held Friday, May 25. Athletic letters and emblems, journalism awards and band let ters and stripes were presented. Jerry Michaels was voted the “most valuable” basketball play er award and Dennis Pfaff was presented the sportsmanship trophy. M. C. Gleason presented his free throw trophies during the assembly. Loyal Higinbotham re ceived the trophy for the sev enth grade player and Jerry Michaels was given the trophy for the eighth grade player. Those receiving journalism awards from Miss Ailene Inlow were: Patty Kime, editor, Carol Albert, Jim Allen, Bill Anhorn, Julie Ashton, Patsy Charley, Doris Inman, Beverly Little, Vanca Russell, Mary Savage, Alice Thompson, Phyllis Woods and Charles Warren. Baseball letters and emblems were presented to: Doug Pfaff, John Anhorn, Ronnie Hale,, Wald, Warren, Dennis Pfaff, Hig inbotham Anhorn, Toner and Don Gillaspey. Baseball manager awards went to McMillian, Bill Anhorn and John Anhorn. Track letters and emblems went to Bibey, Rogue, Jones, Crawford, Heath, Garrison, Foote, Ryerson, White, Willard, LaCasse, Gillaspey, Bartley, Woods, Toner, Pfaff and Cote. Award certificates were pre sented by Mrs. Sylvia Coleman for Girls Athletic Association softball team to: Pat Barber, Ruth Day, Dinda Tidwell, Vicki Workman, Brenda Bennett, Pen ny Taylor, Emma Parrish, Kathy Straus, Pat Allen, Mary Elin Burkhart Jackie Gillespey, Don na Meade, Jo Anne LaCasse, Carol Albert, Melba Tucker, Mary Jo Batzer and Rebecca Ferrell. For earning 250 points in GAA sports, gold cups went to Pat Barber, Patsy Charley and Laurel Setness. Emblems for earning 200 GAA points went to Julie Ashton, Mary Elin Burk hart, Mildred Darras, Rachel Hamilton, Arlene McGowan, Pat Striplin and Laurel Setness. Medals for 150 GAA points went to Nancy Schwebs, Edith Van Hoy, Ellen Ward, Vicki Workman, Lois Young. Chenille “C” awards for 100 GAA points were given to Mary Head, Eva Koch, Karen Larson, Anne Lofland, Bonnie Mann, Garrea Pittman, Sonda Renfrow, Carrol Sinyard and Brenda Ben nett. Commencement exercises were begun promptly at three o’clock m the afternoon at the Butler Memorial band shell in Lithia park. On Saturday evening, the day before commencement, alumni of the school were all invited to attend an alumni supper at Susanne Homes hall beginning at 6:30. ? Margaret Ellen Bishop of Cen tral Point is one of four students who has received a comulative grade point of 3.5 or higher dur ing her college career and is graduating cum laude. Bachelor of Science degrees in education were presented to Margaret Ellen Bishop and Nancy Mallon Stuckey, both of Central Point, and to Beth Eskew and Gilbert Arthur Mack, both of Gold Hill. Calvin Lee Malone of Gold Hill received a junior certificate during the ceremony. Cub Scout Dens Hold Hobo Party Cub Scout Dens 5 and 7, Pack 40, Central Point,, held a Hobo party at TouVelle State Park Saturday afternoon, May 26. John McNeel was elected and crowned King of the Hobos and was presented several gifts from his subjects by Bill McNeel Jr. David Grisson and Billy Buck- holtz, the losing candidates, were given consolation prizes by King John. Royal Harger was judged the best costumed hobo and received his awards from Bill McNeel Jr. The Cub Scout hoboes ate and drank from tin cans. Many used spoons they made themselves. Hotdog sticks wpre made from wire coat hangers and used to foast wieners and marshmallows. Relay races, tag, and baseball were played during the after noon. Present from Den 5 were Royal Harger, Grant Mallery, Alan, Bobby and John Bray. James Rainey, David and Harvey Grisson, Jon Jennings. Wayne Debrick, Roy Fair, and Mrs. Everett Grisson, Den Mother. Recorders Court Collects $170 A fine of $10 for violation of basic rule was paid into Central Point recorder’s court recently by Lee Stotts of Central Point. Bail forfeits of $160 were col lected May 28 by City Recorder Arden Pinkham from persons who failed to appear in court. Forfeiting bail money were: Frederick C. Gebhard to Receive Commission June 4 In Army Air Force Jaycees Receive Charter Thursday The offical charter for Cen tral Point Junior Chamber of Commerce was presented by State President F. F. “Monte” Montgomery to Richard Stratton, local president, during the chart er night banquet held Thursday evening, May 24, at Crater High cafetorium. Guest speaker for the evening was Ivan “Ike” Congelton, re tiring Oregon state Jaycee presi dent. Installation of officers was con ducted by Don Hagedorn, na tional director from Roseburg. Officer pins were presented to Stratton, Clarence Mellbye, George Evans, Cecil Sharpe, Dale Bartley and Bill Colley. A group of nearly 100 people attended the banquet. Jaycee chapters from Medford, Grants Pass, Ashland and Klamath Falls were represented. OSC—Vernon L. Gebhard of Central Point will be commis sioned as a second lieutenant in the United States air force June 4 at Oregon State college com mencement exercises. He will take the oath of office with the 165 other senior men who have completed advanced ROTC training in the air force army, navy and marine corps units. Gebhard, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Gebhard, will be in flight training. Active duty orders will come within a year for the new second lieutenant. JUNE COUNCIL MEET Central Point city council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 4, in the city hall for their reg ular June session.
