PAGE EIGHT Enrollment Letters For Summer School Sent to Parents Enrollment letters for the an nual summer school at Central Point Junior High and Grade schools have been sent out to (parents of students according to word from Principal C. A. Meyer. Summer school this year will open on Monday, June 11, and continue for six weeks. Hours are from 9 a m. until 12 noon, five days a week. Classes will include primary, intermediate and two sections of upper grades Enrollment is limited and par ents are asked to enroll their children early. Further informa tion is available by calling the school office, NO 4-2683 Summer school is not a rem edial school. Principal Meyer said, but one that endeavors to give new and additional exper iences to the boys and girls who attend. LADIES TAKE TRIP Mrs Guy Tex and Mrs. Lottie Cincaid left last Wednesday for extended visits with relatives in the east. Mrs, Tex. who will be gone a month, will visit in In diana. Mrs. Cincaid plans to be gone two months on a visit in New Jersey.' Mrs. Jerry Harrington was elected by ballot to become a new member with initiation to be held on the third Wednesday in June. Noble Grand Mrs Clarence Parsley reported on the Friend ship qight visitation at Ashland on May 1, the local members at tending brought a gift of a pack age of dishclothes for the kitch en. Mrs. Roy Bornamon receiv ed the door prize. The next fiundship night will be at Grants Pass on May 14 After closing of lodge a pink and blue shower was given for Mrs Robert Dotson Goodman of Medford. Mrs. Goodman is the daughter of Mrs. Maybelle Rains and granddaughter of Mrs. Madge Dorman of Gold Hill, all members of Amethyst* lodge. A bassinet full of gifts was presented to Mrs. Goodman Re freshments of ice cream and cake were served by Mrs. Paul Thompson, Mrs. Walter McLean and Mrs. John Cogswell. Past Noble Grand club instal led officers at their regular April meeting which was held at the home of Mrs. Melford Hood. Mrs Les Graffis was cohostess. Mrs. Graffis concluded the bus iness meeting by appointing Mrs Ear I Moore to the flower committee and Mrs Cecil John- iion as publicity The May meet ing will be held at the home of Mrs Harry Newnham with Mrs Ralph Bell as cohostess Canyonville Couple Lease Truck Cafe In Gold Hill By Adah Jones (Too late for last week) GOLD HILL — Mrs Maxine Englebrecht has leased the Truck cafe from Mr. and Mrs Howard Haviland Mrs Engle brecht has operated a cafe in Canyonville the past year Mr and Mrs Haviland have brought the home belonging to Mrs Ethel Mays on 6th ave Mrs Mays and son Buddy expect to leave this week end for New Mexico to make their home Mr and Mrs Ifeviland will taka possession soon Mr Haviland is employed by Jeddcloh Bros A trailer house occupied by Oren Brewster was partially de stroyed by fire last Saturday. CENTRAL POINT AMERICAN. CENTRAL POINT. OREGON The fire came from a defective oil heater. The trailer was park ed at the Cogswell trailer court. Mr. Brewster is an elderly man who lived alone. Clyde Kall, firechief, spoke in a apprecia tion of the help of the volunteer firemen in getting the fire under control with out more damage. Mr. Brewster, who lost his cloth ing and other possessions is stay ing at the home of Mr and Mrs. Joe Buchanon on 4th ave. Shirley Lyman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Ernest Lyman of Sams Valley road, was recently elected to the National Home Economics honorary. Omicron Nu. Miss Lyman is a junior at Oregon State college and a grad uate of Crater High. Poppy posters made for the VFW poppy contest have been on display in the window of Whitmore’s Variety store this week. Winners were Mary Beth Bailey, first; Bonnie Knapp, sec ond. Other entrants were DaVid Molloy, Vervia Beman, Fred Governor, Nancy Student, Su,e Woodward, «nd Danny Richard son. Judges for the poster con test were Mrs. Ada Andrews Mrs. Fred Lester and Mrs. Floyd Taylor. The winning posters will be entered in the state contest which will be judged soon. New buildings and remodeling to the west of Gold Hill that are of especial interest are: first the remodeling of the old Del Rio Stage house by H. S. Duel, the owner of the buildings and orch ards. on thte Old Stage road. The old stage house is being repaint ed and remodeled inside for modern living. Another job is at the Gold Nugget tavern with owner Fairman Connell remodel ing the buildings which was damaged badly during the big December flood. New buildings just past the Rocky Point bridge on 99 north: the new Spiritualist church which was opened to the public on Easter Sunday with Rev. M. M. Kruce as pastor. Under con struction is a building to house a small zoo. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Cummings, owners will have a number of small animals in cluding monkeys, kinkajous, coati mungi, and some reptiles. They hope to have the opening by the middle of May. The build ing is back of the Red tShutter cafe, which will open at the same time under a sub-management. Mrs. James Anderson left last week by plane for Alaska to join her husband who has been em ployed their since January. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bailey and three sons were at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Bailey on the Old Stage road south as guests recently having spent some time in Europe, they have been visiting in Oregon and Washington the past nine months and expect to return to Europe soon. Mrs. Paul Molloy and two sons spent the week end in Salem where they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bell and family, former residents of Gold Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Ogden Kellog of Sardine Creek have as guests THURSDAY, MAY 17, 195S Mrs. Kellog’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mabry of Carmel, Calif. Ernest Cooper received word Sunday of the death of his moth er, Mrs. Herbert Cooper, at Co quille, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Whit more were in Portland over the week end visiting relatives and friends and they brought back with them Mrs. Whitmore’s sis ter, Mrs. Martin Dunn, for an indefinite stay.
