THURSDAY. MAY 17. 1956 Marla Abbott To Head Job's Daughters Bethel Miss Marla Abbott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Abbott was elected Honored Queen of Job’s Daughters Bethel 38 of Central Point on May 10. Other Job’s Daughters taking line offices for the new term in June are Miss Sally Elden. Senior Princess: Miss Helen Hood. Junior Pincess; Miss Kay Askwith, Guide; and Miss Linda Warren, Marshall. May 10 was also the Bethel’s eighth birthday and extending congratulations were Mrs. Paul Snook, Guardian elect of Bethel 38; Mr. Allen Rodgers. Associate Guardian of Bethel 56. Shady Cove; and Mrs. Carlton Elhart, Past Grand Guardian. Ashland. Mrs. Ray Allred, Past Guardian of Bethel 38 presented a gift of eight dollars to the bethel. Hon ored Queen of Bethel 56, Miss Roberta Dunlap, presented the bethel plastic garment bags for their new robes on behalf of her bethel. During the meeting Honored Queen Vicki Noel announced the Merchants lunch the bethel con ducted last week was a success and the Masons of Lodge No. 135 will be presented a check for seventy-five dollars to help fin ance a new roof for the temple. Miss Kay Askwith was honor ed on the occasion of her birth day. x Escorted and introduced from Bethel 56, Shady Cove were Honored Queen Roberta Dunlap and Senior Princess Sandra Saw yer. Also introduced were Mr. Rodgers, the Misses Pat Goode, Susie Chubb, Shelia Dolenshek, Phyllis Briggs, Junior Custodian and Grand Bethel Representa tive to Iowa; and the Madames Frank Dolenshek, Ray Chubb and Allen Rodgers. Decorations were carried out in the birthday party theme. Serving on the decoration com mittee were Miss Jeanne Ritter and her mother and on the table decoration and refreshment com mittee were the Misses Helen Hood, Suzanne Hood, Joyce, Betty and Sharon Pestka and their mothers. The next meeting of Job’s Daughters will be the installation of the Guardian Council on May 24. > CENTRAL POINT AMERICAN. CENTRAL POINT. OREGON State President Visits Relief Corps An unexpected meeting of the Woman’s Relief Corps of Cen tral Point was held Friday, May 11, in the Legion Memorial hall due to the visit of Mrs. Mary Schnase, state president, of Ti gard. The state president gave a great deal of information to the members during the business meeting. A new member, Mrs. Evelyn Novak, was initiated during the session. After the business meeting, a luncheon of cookies, jello pud ding and coffee was served. The next meeting will be June 12 in the Legion hall. Crater Gardeners Slate Installation Crater Garden club will hold its May meeting at 6:30 p.m. this evening, Thursday, at the home of Mrs. Arthur Straus, 643 East Pine street in Central Point. A potluck dinner will precede the business meeting. Installation of new officers will take place after the dinner with Mrs.’ A. O. Floyd as installing officer. Members whose last names be gin with letters A to I, inclusive, are to bring a main dish; J to M a salad; and N to Z a dessert. Each member is to bring her own service. 4-H Homemakers Work on Pillows t At the recent Table Rock 4-H Homemaking club meeting the flag salute was led by Aletta Meyers. Carol Meyers, secretary read the minutes 6f the last meeting. Mrs. Myers was absent so Mrs. Brown took her place. We went to work at our tuck-in pillows and the older girls went to work at their - bed stands. We had a recess and went home. Final plans for Buddy Poppy sales will be made. Poppies will be sold in Central Point May 25 and 26. All proceeds go for child welfare and rehabilitation in veterans hospitals. Girls Scout Fete Mothers with Tea Girl Scout Troop 177 enter tained their mothers at a tea Tuesday evening, May 8. in the recreation room of the new fire hall. Miss Louise Pendleton, assist ant, had charge of the program. Girls sang "Sarah Sponda," "Peace on th¥ River," and “A Cottage in the Woods." Miss Pendleton introduced her mother and Mrs. Nan Darras, neighborhood chairman, and in turn each girl introduced her mother. Mothers present were the Mes- dames: Patterson, Greene, Jos ephson, Pfaff, Woods. Thurner, Bennett, Branch, Hamilton, Ob- enshain and Batzer. Mrs. Carr was a visitor. The girls presented their moth ers with a corsage and a potted plant. Tea and cookies were served by the girls. Troop lead ers are Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Turner. I GRADERS VISITATION Eighth grade students from Central Point Junior High school visited Crater High school today during the annual visitation pro gram. On Friday at 1:30 p.m. eighth grade girls will be pre registered for high school. Pre- high school registration for boys will be held at 2:30 p.m. No. 5 was held in Grants Pass on May 12. Mrs. Mae Robinson acted as chairman of the conven tion. Mrs. Mary Schnase of Tigard, the department president, was in attendance and held a school of instruction. A bountiful pot luck dinner was served at noon. Officers elected for 1957 were: Ethel Griggs, Central Point, president. Cora Schamile, Grants Pass Sr. vice. Mary Foster, Cen tral Point, Jr. vice. By Adah Jones (Too late for last week) GOLD HILL—At the meeting of the Gold Hill Health Unit held on May 1 at the home of Mrs. William Dickenson a pot luck picnic lunch was held at noon. Election of officers for the coming year gave Mrs. Edward Knapp chairmanship; Mrs. Lloyd Dusenberry, vice chairman; Mrs. Roy Cameron, secretary-trea surer. Mrs. Knapp was appointed to represent the unit at the annual TB conference to be held in Portland May 15, 16 with Mrs. Paul Molloy as alternate. Mrs. Tony Kancelier, district nurse, talked on the state mental hospitals and advances made in care of the patients. Members were asked to meet with Mrs. Roy Cameron to make gadget bags which will be on ex hibit at the tea to be held on May 9 at the penthouse of the Community hospital for the benefit of the Roguq Memorial hospital. The local unit again wishes to announce they have on hand a hospital bed, mattress and pil lows which are available to any one needing them.
