THURSDAY. MAY 17. 1956 CENTRAL POINT AMERICAN. CENTRAL POINT. OREGON PAGE THREE Jaycettes Formed, Election Planned An organizational meeting for the Central Point Jaycettes was held Friday. May 11, at the home of Mrs. Bill Colley in Cen tral Point with 19 wives of Jay- cees attending. Mrs. Will Robertson, past pres- idertt of the Medford Jaycettes, was guest speaker. Mrs. Richard Stratton was chosen as temporary chairman and Mrs. Bill Colley was ap pointed temporary chairman. A constitutional committee was appointed consisting of Mrs. Bill Esselstyn, chairman; Mrs. Cecil Sharpe, Mrs. David DeArmond, Mrs. Don Squire and Mrs. Hom er Billups. It was decided that the Jay cettes would provide decorations for the Jaycee Charter Banquet on May 24. Serving on the dec oration committee are Mrs. Clar ence Mellbye and Mrs. John Smock, co-chairman; and Mrs. Don Thumler and Mrs. Jim Gleason. The next meeting wll be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the home of Mrs. Don A. Faber, 144 N. 5th street in Central Point. Election of officers is planned. RESIGNS POSITION Jerry Girard Camp White rec reational director for the past several years, has resigned his position effective May 31. Girard is well-known in the Central Point area. OOP CANDIDATES' PLEDGE — Despite the intensity of their campaigns. the four candidates for Republican nomination as U. S. Senator took time out to pledge support to the winner of the May 18 OOP primary Shown taking the pledge this week on the symbol of the Republican party are, from left: George Altvater, Douglas McKay, Philip Hitchcock and Elmer Deets. The candidates also asked their supporters to back the senatorial nominee .of the Republican party in the general election- Grangers to View Color Film Friday Shell Oil Company will show a colored motion picture on Fertilizing Farm Crops for Bet ter Yield at the Central Point Grange meeting scheduled for Friday evening, May 18. This part of the program will be open to anyone interested in seeing the picture and will start promptly at 8 p.m. After the film, grange will be closed to non-members and the regular business meeting will be conducted. The chaplain, Margaret Wilson, will have a short memorial program at the time of the lecture hour. For the display table, Delmar Smith will have a collection of iris and any who have specimens are invited to bring them for the display. Serving committee for the evening will be Mr., and Mrs. Bert Caster, the Walter Footes and Gene McCurleys. Buddy Mays Receives Star Scout Award By Adah Jones GOLD HILL—Buddy Mays re ceived highest award at the Boy Scout Court of honor, held at the scout hall last Tuesday even ing, May 8. Buddy was made a star scout. Albert Harrison and Delmer Smith received second class awards and Jack Jones, first class. Merit badges were awarded to Charles Johnson, Howard Mis ner, Buddy Mays and Jack Jones for World brotherhood; Richard Hammersely, citizenship in na tion; fishing, Buddy Mays, Jack Jones and Charles Johnson; Richard Bickel, and Willard Waterhouse, first aid; Charles Johnson and Frank Balch, safety; Richard Bickel, camping; Frank Balch, coin collecting; Richard Hammersley, soil and water con servation; Jack Jones, home re pairs; Jack Jones, book binding; Artists Schedule Meet on Wednesday- southern Oregon Society of Artists will see a movie on water color and hear a talk by Miss Kathy Fonken of Hedrick Junior High school at their next meet ing set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Hedrick Junior High school. All members are urged to at tend as another meeting place must be decided upon for the summer months as school closes about June 1. AWARDS ASSEMBLY The annual Crater High school awards assembly will be held Tuesday afternoon, May 22. Ath letic, achievement and class awards will be presented. POSTPONE MEETING Cradle Roll Mothers club meeting has been postponed from May 17 to Tuesday, May 22, at the home of Mitzie Thmuler. During the tenth annual Moth ers Day festivities at Southern Oregon College May 12, Beth Eskew, senior student from Gold Hill, was named by her class mates to the top honor of "Girl of the Year.” In addition to honor roll stand ing academically, she is a mem ber of Delta Phi Alpha, music honorary. Robes, women’s all school service honorary, and has just completed her term as pres ident of the Associated Women Students. She will teach in the schools at Klamath Falls next year. Pat Carlson Joins Store Sales Staff Miss Pat Carlson of Medford has joined the sales staff at Crater Department Store in Cen tral Point. Miss Carlson will handle clerk ing duties in the women’s ready- to-wear department and assist in other sections of the store. She began work last week.
