PAGE TEN Crater Comet Thinclads Triumph At District 6 A-2 Meet Saturday Crater High school, with a total of 87 points, repeated their sub-district victory last Saturday in Ashland as they swept the first place title in the District 6 A-2 track meet. The Comets won seven berths in the state meet which will be held tomorrow and Saturday in Corvallis. The Knappmen made their fin al appearance in A-2 competition last Saturday. Next season they will step into the A-l league. First place winners for the Comets were: Jack Lilly in the discus with 134 feet, 5 inches; George Juveland in the 100-yard dash with :10.6; Bob Mason with 21 feet, 1¥< inches in the broad jump; Dick Davis and Craig Cochran tied for first in the high jump at five feet, nine inch es. Second place berths were won by Don Goyette in the pole vault and Juveland in the 220-yard dash. Other Comet entries competing In the district meet were: Bill Morris, sixth, shot put; Bob Elden, fourth, Bill Bowles, fifth, and Jim Estremado, sixth in the mile run; Don Hubbard sixth, 440-yard dash; Lee Gossett, fifth, and Byers, sixth, low hurd les; Marvin Spradling, third, and Straus, fifth, 880-yard run. Sutherlin was second in the meet with 54 V4 points followed by Myrtle Point 50, Douglas, 48, Eagle Point 42. Bandon, 36, Phoenix, 31, Myrtle Creek, 29*>4, Illinois Valley, 29, Coquille, 18, Henley, 5, aand Glendale. 2. Two Track Meets Set for Classes Two intra-mura! track meets for seventh and eighth grade students have been sot for May 25 and 28 by Bill Esselstyn, ath letics director at Central Point Junior High school. The eighth grade meet will be held the afternoon of May 25 and the seventh grade meet will be held on the afternoon of Mav 28 Gold and silver cups will be awards to winners of events. On the 25th. the Indians soft- ball team will plav a faculty team and on the 28th the Pir ates softball team will play the faculty. Indians Win World Series The Indians won the world scries title in seventh and eighth grade PeeWee softball at Central Point Junior High school during the past week with a 6-2 win over the Cards. The Indians topped the Amer ican league race in the eighth grade league and the Cards won the National league race on the seventh grade level. GH Hanby School To Host Thinclads t Comets Lose 3-0 In Final Game The Crater Comets ended their regular baseball schedule last Wednesday, May 9, with a 3-0 loss to Ashland on the Crater diamond. Four errors by the Comets aid ed the Ashland win. During the regular season, the Comets have won six and lost six, posted one tie and played one no contest game in which they led Klamath Falls 7-4. Swim Lessons Start June 18 Swimming lessons in connec tion with the Central Point sum mer recreational program will start June 18, according to Bill Esselystyn, summer receation di rector. The course will consist of 10 lessons for a cost of $2. Lessons will be 30 minutes in length and will be conducted from 9 am. to 12 noon at the Medford swim ming pool. Anyone interested in taking lessons at the rate of $2 for 10 lessons is asked to contact Bill Esselstyn, NO 4-1156, no later than June 4 so transportation and class arrangements may be made. Details of regular recreational swimming will be announced later. TO STATE MEET Coach Ed Knapp and his crew of track stars left Thursday noon, today, for the state track meet at Corvallis this week end. Boys making the trip are: George Juveland, Jack Lilly, Bob Mason, Dick Davis. Craig Cochran and Don Goyette. Election Roles Outlined For Friday Vote On Friday, May 18, at 8 a.m. polls for the Primary Party Nom inating Election will open in 94 precincts in Jackson county. Oregon recognizes two official political parties, the republican and the democratic. Any elector who is registered otherwise or does not declare his party is listed as non-partis an. A non-partisan cannot par ticipate in the primary election except to vote the official judici ary ballot, which is for non partisan candidates. Republicans and democrats vote their re spective party ballots and the the non-partisan ballot. Some local measures will be listed on separate ballots and all electors who are qualified may vote these ballots whether non partisan or otherwise. Each elector who presents him self to the election officials to request a ballot must identify himself as to name, residence address and party Each elector, after checking with the first clerk must sign both poll books certifying that he lives within the precinct in which he desires to vote. Polls open at 8 p.m. Friday, May 18, and close at 8 p.m. sharp. All electors who are in side the polling place at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote. Practice-Work Nights Scheduled by IOOF A combination practice session and work night will be held Friday, May 18, by Central Point Odd Fellows in the IOOF hall. The third degree will be prac ticed to be confirmed on three candidate next Monday night. Work on the pool room will fol low the practice. Sunday, May 20, the Odd Fel lows will meet at the Central Point cemetery at 10 a.m. to clean up the cemetery in prep aration for Memorial Day. A card party at 8 p.m. Satur day, May 19, will be held at the IOQF hall for all Odd Fellows, Rebekahs and their friends. Harry Meyers Sells Home in Medford Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Meyers have sold their home at 810 East Jackson, Medford, to Mr. and Mrs. Alton L. Leek, also of Medford. The Meyers will move into another home which they own in Medford. Meyers is Central Point Junior High school band in structor. Sale of the property was made by Tom Phelps of the M & M Agency.
