Two Losses Drop
PeeWees to Second
Place in League
A 3-1 defeat at the hands of
Medford Tigers last Thursday at
Medford dropped the Central
Point PeeWees into second place
in the league standing.
Three Central Point errors all
resulted in runs for the Tigers.
Bill Anhorn. in charge from
the mound, struck out five and
allowed five walks. John Anhorn
got the single hit for the local
PeeWees and drove in the only
tally in the third inning.
Dennis Painter, hurling for the
Tigers, whiffed eight nnd gave
up two walks.

Monday afternoon the local
PeeWees hosted the Ashland crew
and again saw error-ridden play
«teal a victory 13-8.
Central Point was chalked with
10 errors during the game. Ash
land cinched the contest with a
big seven-run fourth inning.
Bill Anh< rn whiffed seven bat
ters, gave up nine walks and
allowed eight hits. Anhorn and
Charles Warren, his battery mate,
led local batsmen with two hits
each.

Elk and Deer Tags

months away, eager big game
hunters who like the psycholo
gical t ffect of early possession of
their big game tags can now make
their purchifs’ s at license agencies
according to Bill DeCcw, voulroll-

sion.
Elk and deer tags are now
being shipped to license agencies
throughout the state and should
I m - available to hunters by July
22 or shortly thereafter.
The tags are the same as last
year with the months and dates
of the season along the edge of
the card. When an animal is
killed, the hunter must remove
that portion of the tag indicating
the month and the day the ani
mal was bagged.
The cost for a resident elk
tag is $7 50 and for a resident

Two Squads Set
Challenge Series
Challenges have been flying
thick and fast between team mem
bers of Central Point PeeWee and
Intermediate ball squads.
To settle ‘which is the best
team" Recreation Director Leon
ard Warren has announced plans
for a three-game play off series.
The games will lx- played dur
ing the first week in August,
after the regular league season
ends. All games will be played
on the city ball park.
Visitors and parents are invit
ed to attend th«» games and root
for their favorites. Game sched
ules will be announced in next
week's American.

TV Drawing Contest
Janice Jones, ten year old
daughter of Mr and Mrs. Morris
Jones of Central Point, won sec
ond prize in the recent Uncle
Bill drawing contest conducted bv

PUREBRED JOINS HERD
Another aristroerat has recently
been add«-d to the A T Lathrop
herd of purebred Berkshire swine,
lllio Royal Lady 6th is her name
and she is the daughter of "Royal
Laddie" and a sow that placed
first in her class at the Illinois
State fair in 1954 This completes
a trio of a boar and two gilts
from the famous herds of Rob
ert Altman. Pleasant Plains. Ill.,
and Rex Whitmore. Burlington,
Wis.
ARRIVE ON WEDNESDAY
Guests who arrived Wednesday
evening at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Anderson and child
ren included his sister and a
former school friend now living
in California. His sister is Mrs.
Howard Cook and three children,
Irene, Kathy and Steven of Ton
asket, Wash. The school friend is
Mrs. Fred Cherry of Oakland,
Calif. They will visit here until
this weekend.
ASSISTS AT SHOP
Howard H. Killlbrew of La
Mesa, New Mexico, has been as
sisting at Gleason’s Barber Shop
during the past weeks. Killibcew,
who last visited here in 1951,
owns fruit acreage on south Stage
road.
Seven Fires Call
Rural Fighters
Into Action in Week
Grass fires have been striking
with regularity in the rural dis
trict to keep volunteer firemen
of Central Point Rural Fire Pro-
tection District constantly on the
alert.
Since Wednesday of last week,
rural fighters have responded to
seven calls.
Chief Richard Krupp reported
the following details of the fire
calls made throughout the dis
trict.
On Wednesday, July 13, fire
men controlled two grass fires
.south of Antelope road which
were burning at the same time
two miles apart. One was east of
Crater Lake highway and the
other was between the highway
and Table Rock road. One acre
and five acres were burned in
the two fires.
At 2:10 p.m. July 14. the de
partment controlled a twoacre
grass fire north of Stage road
grocery on property owned by
Leroy Janke.

At 6:40 a.m. July 15, two
trucks were called to Ross Lum
ber Co. at White City to control
a trash Tire which had gotten
out of control.
At 7:30 p.m. Monday. July 18.
four trucks answered an alarm
at the R. L. Issacs Sr. home 1*4
miles north of Jacksonville on
the Old Stage road. A small fire
in the loft of a barn was ex
tinguished. Cause wa#; undeter
mined Sacks and other stored ma
terial were burned.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Monday
one truck was sent on a call be
lieved to be out of the distrirt
beyond Camp White. The fire was
beyond district boundaries. The
truck dumped what water was
carried, to assist the forest ser
vice crew, and returned to the
station. A large chicken house
was reported burned.
Early Tuesday afternoon, July
19, local crews answered a call
from Jackson Creek Lumber Co_,
east of Jacksonville, where a
small grass fire wtas reported.

rived. A forest service truck was
called on the fire also.
