James Molloy and children. Mich­

guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mol-
loy at the Oaks Motel. The men
ere brothers and it is the first
•tr*p here for the James Molloy
family, who live at Pioneer Mine,
British Columbia. A gold mining
town where mountains keep the
sunshine in short hours. They
are enjoying the Rogue valley
sunshine and taking advantages
of opportunities for dental work
which is dificult to get in their
mining town.
Mr. and Chaucy Page and Mrs.
Page’s nephew. Utah Switzer of
Eureka, recently made a trip to
Yakima, Wash, to visit relatives
of Mrs. Page and to try out the
new car the Pages recently pur­
chased. They went by way of
Diamond Lake and Bend on high
way 97 north seeing much of the
state that was new to them.
Mrs. Ethel Mays and son Buddy
returned to their home on 6th
Ave. after spending the past
month visiting her son and fam­
ily, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mays and
their baby son, Jerry Steven, at
Albuquerque, New Mexico. They
returned by way of Grand Junc­
tion, Colo., where they stopped to
visit other relatives.
District Deputy Grand Master
Harry Smith and his staff of the
Gold Hill IOOF lodge have been
kept busy the past week with
installation ceremonies in the
valley. I4»st Friday night was in­
stallation at Jacksonville: Mon­
day night at Central Point and
Tuesday night at Medford. On
the staff besides Harry Smith are
"Bud’’ Harrv Force, Deputy Mast­
er; Paul Thompson, secretary;
Norman Gail, treasurer; Ferd
Jones, chaplain- Glenn Miller and
Don Morrow, guardians and Leon-
and Andrews, warden.
Allen Martin, grandson of Mr.
and Mrs. Wilbur Martin, is spend­
ing the summer with his grand­
parents and with his father Jim
Martin. Alien’s home is in Seattle.
The firemen and fire truck got
a little work out Sunday even­
ing when they were called to put
out a grass fire Just east of the
Communitv church. Grass burned
from a lot belonging to Vaughn
Whitmore, early in the day, flared
up in the late afternoon.
Mr and Mrs. Harry Smith have
returned from a few days vaca­
tion. George Patsy took care of
the meat market at Gail’s Gold
Hill Market during Harry’s ab-
sence.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shoe­
maker of Chicago, III., returned

spending several weeks visiting
friends and relatives in the Gold
Hill area. Edward is the son of
Mrs. Helen Shoemaker of Gold
Hill and Ed Shoemaker. He is
employed at the Chicago post­
office.
Mrs. Iva Lentz of Sacramento,
Calif, and her sister, Mrs. Pearl
Harter of southern California,
are spending a few days in Gold
Hill. Mrs. Dentz is looking after
rental property, also visiting her
granddaughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Arlie Walker.
John Cameron, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Don Cameron, writes his
folks that he expects to be on
his way to Africa by air on July
28. John is a naval airman and
is at Putuxent, Md., on the car­
rier Coral Sea.
Mrs. Amy Ross left last week
for San Diego where she is visit­
ing her son Pat, who is on the
destroyer Radar Sutherlin at San
Diego. Pat expects to be sent out
,to other waters in the near fut­
ure.
Mrs F. P. Mitchel has has re­
turned to live in her home on 6th
ave. after spending several months
with relatives at Jacksonville,
since the death of Mr. Mitchel in
March.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kofahl, of
north Pacific highway, entertain­
ed for a few days last week, their
son Col. Harold Kofahl and Lieut.
Col Geor. Herndon, of the U. S.
air force. Col. Kofahl is chief
of personnel, procurement divi­
sion and Lieut. Col. Herndon is
an executive officer. Both men
have offices in the Pentagon in
Washington, D. C. and are on a
routine tour.
Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Carter and
children, Ruth Ann and Jimme,
are at the home of LeRoys par­
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carter
on the upper river road. They
are On a ten day vacation from
Lima, Ohoio, where LeRoy is em­
ployed as an aviation design eng­
ineer for Westinghouse. One June
15 he received his Master's de­
gree in science at the University
of Pittsburg, having taken his
course under the Westinghouse
and University of Pittsburg’s ex­
tension plan of night classes. He
has his bachelor’s degree in sci­
ence from Iowa State college
while in the navy, and is a grad­
uate of Gold Hill high school.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Scott, of
Sumpter, Oregon, have beert
spending a few days at their
home on the North frontage road
across the Rogue from Gold Hill.
The Scotts have mining interests
in Eastern Oregon, near Sumpter.
Mr. and Mrs. Hummel have
moved to the Fred Hasse place
on the north frontage road. Mr.
and Mrs. Hummel are owners of
the Red Shutters, formerly a
cafe, on the Pacific highway
north.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wenthworth
have moved to the Red Shutters
after selling their property on
