GOLD HILL—Gold Hill city
council met with the budget com­
mittee on Monday night which
meeting resulted in the adoption
of the city budget. Total expend­
itures for the year $26,145; total
estimated receipts, out of tax,
$15,830; amount of tax needed.
$10,315.
No election will be necessary
to approve the budget as it is
under the 6% limit. A public
hearing on the budget will be
held June 6 at regular council
meeting. Provisions has been
made in the budget for $600, to­
wards improving street lighting,
this includes several mercury
lights and several enclosed lum-
inares.
Mrs Ferd Jones returned Tues­
day, after a weeks visit with Mr.
and Mrs. Wendell Jones and
children Linda and Steven, at
the Detroit ranger station at De­
troit, Oregon. Wendall is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Feed Jones and
is with the U. S. Forest service.
Marvin Throne, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Throne, is at home
on leave after spending several
months in the Pacific with the
7th Fleet. He is aviation elec­
trician on the carrier Wasp.
Rev. Gerald Gear of the Com­
munity Methodist church, is
away this week at meetings at
Chilqum and Ft. Klamath east of
the mountains.

Arnold Bohnert
Named Chairman
Arnold Bohnert of Central
Point was elected Monday as
chairman of the Jackson County
Agriculture council at a meeting
held in the court house in Med­
ford.
He was chosen for a two year
term. He succeeds A. E. Brock­
way, Medford. Other new officers
are Don Nichols vice chairman,
and W B.. Tucker, re-elected sec­
retary.
The 18-member council heard
and adopted subcommittee re­
ports on land use. farm crops,
dairy, horticulture, livestock,
poultry, weeds, home extension
and 4-H club work.
Jewett to Appear
On TV Panel Talk
School Supt. H. P. Jewett
will serve as moderator for a
panel discussion of ‘'Competitive
Athletics at the Elementary
School Level” on a TV program
over station KBES-TV at 3 p.m.
Sunday, April 24.
The program is sponsored by
the Jackson County Health as-
sociation. Others to appear on
the panel are Alf Mekvold, coun­
ty school superintendent; Lee
Ragsdale, supervisor of Physical
Education. Medford schools- and
Dr. Alex Peterson, professor of
Physicial Education at SOC-E.

department at 9:10 a m. Saturday,
April 16.
The rural pickup and one
pumper were dispatched on the
alarm No damage was caused.
An inspection of the chimney
