A RACE
for
LIFE
(Continued from last week)
For a long time after she had eat
en her breakfast, June Dally lay on
her back staring at the celling She
was
thinking— thinking— thinking.
She was thinking about the strange
actions of her doctor. The darkened
room— the avoided telling of his
name— the slip of his tongue when
he called her June— his sudden arri
val without any visible means )t
transportation— his sudden depart
ure. It was all so strange. A tired
sigh escaped her lips as she closed
her eyes, and the words formed un
der her breath, “ I believe I am right,
something seems to tell me so."
Chapter 8
June Takes a Turn for the Worse.
Two weeks have passed at the
Dally ranch since the doctor went
away. June's arm was healing fine.
She was up and around with her arm
still protected in a sling. But It was
plainly visible there was something
wrong. The sparkle of her eyes was
gone. A smile seidoni left her lips
"I am worried about you dear,”
said her aunt to June one evening as
they were seated on the front porch
of the ranch house "You don’t seem
your old self any more. Does your
arm bother you very much?”
“ No Aunt Sharlott. My arm is ali
right. I hardly notice it at all.”
“ Well what is it June? You don't
seem to improve like I thought you
would.”
“ Oh— I don't know Auntie. Just
tired I guess.” answered June as she
laid her head hack on the chair and
closed her eyes.
“ I am certainly worried about you
June.” and Mrs Daily closely studied
the face of the girl.
“ Don’t worry about me Auntie.

' Don't try to Auntie I am awfully-
tired and I believe I will go to bed.
Goodnight Aunt Sharlott.” and June
got up from her chain, kissed her
aunt on the cheek and slowly walk-
ed into the house.
The next morning found Mrs
Daily in earnest conversation with
Fred Pennington. From the low
tone of their voices it was evident
that they did not want their words
to be overheard But let us listen to
what they have to say.
"Fred, you have Just got to go to
town and see if you can find that
doctor. I don t know his name or
where he is, but you must find him.”
"Haven’t heard a thing about him
since he left the ranch, Mrs Daily."
"Don't make a bit of difference
Fred, if that doctor is still in town
you have got to find him. June is
gettting worse all the time. She
won't eat or sleep hardly any. I am
right down worried about her.”
"All right Mrs. Daily, I will do the
best I can. I would go thru hell for
June if I had to. But won't Doctor
Green do?”
"No Fred. I suggested Doctor
Green but June wouldn’t hear to it.
This other doctor is the one that at
tended her, and he will know just
what to do. Now you get that team
hitched up and get going— search
every room house and hotel in town
and if he is to be found bring him
home.”
The July sun again bung like a
