Chapter 7
The Doctor Goes Away
The follow in g morning Mrs. Daily
entered the sick-room. But it could
hardly be called a sick-room
any
more, for June was to be allowed to
go into the livingroom aud sit in a
chair until she felt like goin g back
to bed. The first thing Mrs. Daily
did on entering was to go directly
to the windows and roll
tb s
cur
tains as high as they would go. That
was th
first time they
were
up
since June was injured.
"G o o d -m o rn in g June dear. There,
d o n ’t you think that is b e t t e r ? ” she
asked us the full flood of the m orn
ing light entered the windows, aud
sht continued, "I don't know w hat
that fool doctor wanted th e blinds
down all the time for an yw ay.”
“ Thank you Aunt
Sharlott— yes
that is certainly better. I nearly for
got what sunlight looks like, but he
is not a fool doctor and you know it,
and if he wanted the blinds down he
had a perfectly good reason.
And
she said to herself, "A n d I think I
know what that reason was— wish I
knew for su re.”
" I am g oing to dress your arm
for you now June dear, then you can
have your breakfast.
And
after a
while you may com e o n ' to the liv
in groom and set up for awhile.”
" A r e you goin g to dr ss my arm
Au ntie? W h ere Is the doctor

m ornin g.” asked June with a look
o f surprise in her big brown eyes.
“ Fred
took him
to town
this
morning. He left real early. He left
some instructions for me to follow
and said you were all out o f danger.
"B u t Aunt Sharlott, he never cam t
te th • rooni and said good b y ! ” Ju n p
exclaimed, and her eyelids -seemed
to flutter as she looked dow n at the
bed covers. It may have been the
bright sunlight streaming
in thru
the win dows that effected her eyes
that way. but it is doubtful.
" T h e doctor said you were proh-
abty a l s - . p « h e n he left, and that
he would not disturb you. He said
you needed the rest ”
“ Auntie Sharlott, did you find out
w ho the d octor w a s ? ”
"I and sakps no child. I couldn't
get it out o ' him in noway, shape or
form .”
" H o w much did
he charge
for
what he d i d ? "
"T h a t 's another thing that opein'
strange to me June. He would n o ’
tell me what the bill was He sab’
he would send the statement, th e'
he would t-ove to figure It out first."
"1 want rnr breakfast now Auntie
I'm awfully hungry. Gan I have it ? "
“ Certainly you can,
child.
And
you can get up for a while and sit
in the other r oom .”

If hot water cost twice what it does to have
it always on tap, I’d gladly pay it. Actually,
though, the cost is much less than I had ex
pected. In fact, if I had realized how conveni
ent it was to have it, and how little it increased
my monthly bills, I d have installed a continu
ous hot water heater long ago. What I didn't
realize was the lowness of today's special heat
ing rates, and the way the thickly-insulated
modern water heaters conserved heat and cut
fu«l costs.
