Air Mail Service Shows Big Increase The greatest air mail year in its history wus recorded by Oregon In 1936 when its citizens sent 229,- 329 pounds of c orrespon den ce over the airways, it was reported today in official fig ures released by Post master T o m Pankey. T h e record-break in g total repre sented a gain o f 13.323 pounds, or more than six per cent, over Ore g on's 1935 air mail volume. Of the total, 197.470 pounds were dlspateh- ed from Portland. 10.532 póunds from Peudleton and 21,327 pounds from Medford, as the three points In Oregon at which air mail planes stop. Still fu rther gains in the speed ot air mail service, plus ad ded sch e dules and a continued growth o f the nation's vast airway netw ork are ex pected to contrib ute to ev< n larger air mall loads in 1937, Postmaster Pankey said.
