The purpose of this under taking is to collect information for a comprehensive index of the basic materials for research in the history of the United States; a guide which, it is predicted, will be of incalculable value to historians. The results of of the survey in Jackson County and every other county of Oregon are to be included in a separate index which is to be printed by the Univer sity of Oregon Press. Among the public sources of his torical Information which Miss' French and Mr. Segsworth will ex- j amine are the archives of the county court house, the records in the var ious city halls of the county, and the relics that may he in the posses sion o f historical and pioneer socle- ; tie».
