The American has m aintained Its leadership th ro u g h o u t the depression because it has the courage ot its convictions. THE AMERICAN VOLUME VIII D O LLA R D A Y and E aster E dition CEN TRA L POINT, OREGON, THURSDAY, MARCH 2«, 19«U NUMBER 24 ST by an Innocent Bystander Well! And once more WELL,! W e have been sitting back in o u r w atch tow er w ondering when, if or how anyone would inject a bit of life into the local campaign, which had been dragging a bit. Now comes the ever faith fu l H e n rie tta an d pitches h e r chapeau into th e rin g for Coun ty Clerk, of all places! D on’t we have fun! Or perhaps we had better say, "w o n 't we h av t fu n .” • • • Be it far from us to discourage the dear lady, o r to cast a cloud ov e r h e r aspirations, but we fear she sta n d s a b o u t the same show of com- o u t ahead for any political office in Jackson county, as long a t least as m e n ’s memories fail not, as did Elec ta when she endeavored to hop into h e r h u s b a n d s chair as County Judge. • • • Mrs. M artin was too long and too prom inently associated with the old troublous tim es and tro u b le -m a k ing "he ll-raise rs” , as A rt Perry loves to call them, who alm ost dis r u p ted o u r County and brought on so much b itterness for those who be lieve in peaceful, law-abiding m e th ods of handling county affairs to ev er give her honest support for any political office. • • • A nd when she picked on George C a rte r as an opponent she showed a n u tte r lack of common sense. Geo rge has made a mighty fine official and one whose record is w orthy of em ulation by all o th e r officials. Clean, honest and ever to be found quietly a tte n d in g to his own busi ness, George C a rte r is well worthy of th e votes of every public-spirited citizen in th e county. • • » O ur spring w eathers seems to have c a u g h t cold. It gave us the shiver to look out of o u r window the other day and set B e rt’s new lawn lying w h itl under a blanket of s u o * . B ut Bert was th a n k fu l, for th a t snow- helped a lot in softing the ground an d breaking up clods. • • • Talk is going the ro u n d s about a n o t h e r Beautification Contest. We w ere told by several th a t they had never seen the town look b etter than this year and they laid it largely on o u r contest last year. F olks liked the looks of things so well and hea rd so m any com pliments th a t they are going ahead an d cleaning up th e ir yards and planting flowers. W hich is j u s t w hat our idea was when we proposed the idea last year. • • • We have spoken several times lately abo u t th e ladies getting up a Civic Club an d p u tting on a feed for the "p oor tired business m en” once in a while. Now we have an o th e r idea which was suggested to us this week. Cannot the business m en get toge ther once in a while an d chip in enough to pay some or ganization like the P.T.A. or Relief Corps or perhaps one of the church organizations to get up a dinner. T hen spend a few h ours talking over com m unity affairs and getting better acquainted. $675 for Flood GIVES OPERETTA Victims Asked FRIDAY EVENING Of Jackson Co.
