Items, autographed first editions and
letters recently sold at auction in New
York city.
Th e objects belonged to
Mrs. Richard Bret Harte o f Los An­
geles, for whose account they were
sold.
The desk, which folds Into n chest,
has a drop front and Is fitted with
compartments fur holding papers and
envelopes and four drawers. It was
used by H arte regularly In his Euro­
pean period and many o f his later
tales.w ere written on It. Various per­
sonal articles used by him, including
his silver pencil, pocket mirror, pho­
tograph case, papercutter, locket, cult
links nnd cigarette i ml cigar cases,
