The Normal school entertainment committee has arranged for one of the best musical treats and enter tainments of the season to take place in the normal auditorium on March 16. The exceptional attraction is the University of Oregon string quartet. All music lovers of Ashland will re member the date. The poem on the editorial page of last week’s American caused fav orable comment by some of the read ers of the paper. Ashland folks cer tainly need more prayers. “ A life without prayer is like a flower with out fragrance.” On Thursday afternoon, March 10, a very pleasant social and business meeting is being planned by the Bereans of the Baptist Sunday school Mrs. Poyer and Mrs. V. N. O. Smith are the hostesses for this meeting at the Smith residence on Penn and Morton streets. Dr. Maud Allen from Forozephur, India, will speak at the Presbyterian church Thursday evening, March 3. Dr. Allen is in charge of the Frances Newton hospital for women and is one o f the foremost workers in Presbyterian church leaving here for India in 1804. The A. E. Kinney and T. W. The porch was loosened from the house and all the contents were disturbed and soaked with mud dy water. The house was held by the trees, otherwise it would have been carried away in the flood. The Bible school party ht the Christian church last Friday was an enjoyable affair. A splendid program was rendered, after which an hour was spent in games in the class rooms later refreshments were served to about one hundred in the church dining room by the committee in charge. He has bought several carloads in Rogue river valley and will finish his ship ment with what he buys around Ash land. * The daily Bible school has *te;*l- ily increased in attendance until at the opening of the present semester 509 pupils were enrolled. Thirty of this number were passed, leaving the present enrollment at 407. This means that 86 per cent of the pupils in the first six grades of the gram mar school are in regular attendance upon Bible instruction for one hour each week.
