I he latest United S ta te s census ranks Jackson county first in total num b e r of p ear trees, out of all counties in the state of Oregon. Some 8 , 0(10 acres nre listed on the c o u n ty ’s tax roll as pear orchards and it is from these acres that a golden crop of fru it is harvested and tu r n e d into wealth equal to or g r e a te r than that derived from any oth e r ag ric u ltu ra l crop within the boundaries of the county. The 192(1 pear crop, some 2,200 carloads, is an increase of 15 per cent over the crop of 1925 and al- mo 100 |w*r cent over the crop pro- du«ed in 1924. This increase may be accounted for by new plantings com ing into bearing and also increased production of older orchards re su lt ing from improved c ultural methods Although prices were not at their best during the past season, this rec. rd crop brought into the valley approxim ately two millions of dol lar*. This is a bright spot on the highway and a ttr a c ts many thousands of tourists during the year. It is a grand advertising scheme of the live Klamath Fulls leaders. Coming back tow ard Ashland turn o ff the pavem ent to your left, good roads everyplace, pass the new school building on y o u r left as you leave the junction. We w ant to im press the fact upon th e readers th a t the styles, prices and tr e a tm e n t should be e x pected a t home the same as in oth e r s o u th e rn Oregon cities. We c a n ’t prove the fact alone, but with the custom of pa tronizing home it will soon be learned to the a d v a n ta g e of all. T h e re is little d iffe re n c e to the m e r c h a n t’s finance betw een his city tra d e and the country tra d e he may acquire. Each has to be invited. It behooves the business man to keep his firm and business name before the public constantly. Make it a household word. But the co n sta n t a d vertising, the quoting of prices and the invitation to custom ers through n ew spaper space is n o t all. T h a t a d v e rtisin g must be backed up with congenial greetings to custom er, friendships, honest goods and con venient trading establishm ents. I t is b e tte r f a r to pay no heed to such gossip and bring the r e ports o r kicks direct to your m e r chant, who will do his best to rem edy any f a u lt or neglect, should such e x ist.
