num b e r of p ear trees, out of all
counties in the state of Oregon. Some
8 , 0(10 acres nre listed on the c o u n ty ’s

from these acres that a golden crop
of fru it is harvested and tu r n e d into
wealth equal to or g r e a te r than that
derived from any oth e r ag ric u ltu ra l
crop within the boundaries of the
county.
The 192(1 pear crop, some 2,200
carloads, is an increase of 15 per
cent over the crop of 1925 and al-
mo
100 |w*r cent over the crop pro-

accounted for by new plantings com

production of older orchards re su lt

Although prices were not at their
best during the past season, this

upon th e readers th a t the styles,

We c a n ’t
prove the fact alone, but with the
custom of pa tronizing home it will
soon be learned to the a d v a n ta g e of
all. T h e re is little d iffe re n c e to the
m e r c h a n t’s finance betw een his city
tra d e and the country tra d e he may
acquire. Each has to be invited. It
behooves the business man to keep
his firm and business name before
the public constantly.
Make it a
household word. But the co n sta n t a d
vertising, the quoting of prices and
the invitation to custom ers through
n ew spaper space is n o t all. T h a t a d
v e rtisin g must be backed up with
congenial greetings to custom er,
friendships, honest goods and con
venient trading establishm ents.

A d ja c e n t farm ers will find in Ash
land, we are sure, ideal tr a d in g con
ditions. B etter we believe now than
they have probably been in the past.
D iffe re n t people have d if f e r e n t
stores they p refer and it is a fact,
the world over, th a t ru m o rs and com
plaints a re broadcasted a ga inst the
business dealings of this and th a t
concern. I t is b e tte r f a r to pay no
heed to such gossip and bring the r e
ports o r kicks direct to your m e r
chant, who will do his best to rem edy
any f a u lt or neglect, should such e x
ist. A general complaint on m a rk e t
conditions,
roads,

etc.,
should be brought to the a tte n tio n

A m utual
a g r e e m e n t can be established. Co
operation can and should exist. Let
us all strive for this condition, Ash
land needs the f a r m e r ; the f a rm e r
needs Ashland.
