CENTRAL POINT AMERICAN Alaska and Siberian Trips Told in Letters to Home Not W hat it It C racked up to Be The following two letters were re ceived recently by John Cameron, who lives on route 2, out o f Central Point from his son, Edward H, 26, who is making his first trip to Nome, Alaska, aboard the steamer Donald son. Edward spent last Christmas at his parents home here, after spending some time in Siberia on a trading vessel and expects to be home again this year fo r Christmas. He is a graduate o f the Adcox auto school, Portland, whicn he entered when he was 16 and later taught the engin eering trade there for five years. John Comeron has in his posession a pair o f mucktocks, an Eskimo mac- assin, which is made from seal skin and reindeer, also a Siberian trap made entirely with a knife, carved from wood, used for catching game and ermine. The letters follow: May 13, 1926 Just a few lines from Sin Bad, I suppose you know where I am going I am Chief Engineer on a passenger boat for this summer, we will run from Nome to StMicheals, Alaska, until about the middle o f November. We are on our way to Nome now, left Seattle the 4th, stopped a cou ple o f hours in Ketchican on the 8th and stopped in Seward last night. ItB sure been alovely trip so far. Just before dark I could see the Kodiak Islands, ahead. We passed a few chunks o f icy straits on themorn- ing o f the 9th. That night we had a pretty choppy sea, that rolled us a- round u bit, one passenger lost his appetite. This morning six o f them cut down on the board bill for the samerf'eason. Expect to be in Nome about the 22nd. We were half way there this evening. I don’t expect to see much ice in theBearing sea as they had an early spring. Last year at this time there was quite a bit o f ice there though. The engine is a good one, only two years old, and I overhauled it com pletely before we left Seattle.
