Senator Patterson was elected over Governor Pierce democratic, by a big majority bordering on a landslide and the old time Oregonians can rejoice that the state is again back in the Republican column as of yore. The latest wire received late Wednesday night further says: Frederick Steiwer, republican, showed a gain in his race with Bert E. Haney, democrat, on the compila­ tion this afternoon of returns from 1416 of the state’s 1847 precincts. Steiwer had 73,228; Haney 67,085. Senator Robert N. Stanfield, running as independent after having lost in I. L. Patterson, republican, was elected governor over Governor Walter M. Pierce by a big plurality, the primary, had 41,974 on this tab­ ulation. W. P. Adams, another independent had 2315. Figures from 1415 precincts gave Patterson 99,005; Pierce 74,743; H. H. Stallard, independent “ wet” candidate received 1038. The three Oregon republican con­ gressmen, W. C. Hawley, first dis­ trict ;N. J. Sinnott, second, and M. E. Crumpacker, third, continued to pile up their leads over their democratic opponents on each compilation. For state officers, returns from 1287 percincts out of 1847 in the state give: Superintendent o f public instruc­ tion: Howard, republican, 95,529; Turner, democrat, 56,422.
