The following statement o f the city o f Central Point’s financial standing is taken from the records o f the city recorder’s office, showing the handling o f the city’s finances during the administration o f W. C. Leever, as mayor, and L. Hatfield, recorder and, R. F. Paxson, trasur- tr, with the present city council com posed o f F. A. Southwell, I. D. Lewis, E. E. Scott, Floyd Ross and M. M. Kindle. There were issued refunding im provement bonds in 1919, by pre vious city council, amounting to 73 bonds of $1000 denominations, mak ing a total o f $73,000. Mayor Leever’s administration be gan January 3, 1921. Since June 27, 1921, the city council has redeemed or taken up bonds numbers 1 to 14 inclusive, or a total amount of bonds, $14,000 leaving a balance o f 59 bonds out standing o f $1000 each or a total of $59,000 besides paying all interest on bonds, redeeming coupons amount ing to $18,986 additional. There are four series o f water bonds, ( a b e d . ) The first series amounting to $25,000, which this present city council has created a sinking fund with an Investors syndicate, to take up the whole of this bond series by the time the bonds mature without having to levy any taxes on the people to help pay lor it. There has already been paid into this sinking fund the sum o f $5328 which has been laid aside from the receipts o f the water rentals and which will eventually pay o ff this $25,000 series, without taxing the people of Central Point a single dol lar. No such arrangements had been taken up by any previous city coun cil and if the present city council is re-elected for another term, it is their intention to make the water system pay its own bonds by the time they mature, without having to tax the people to meet these bonds when due. Would the people o f Central Point want to see a new administration step in and spoil the present system of reducing the city’s indebtedness by erroneously spending the re ceipts o f the city for other things instead o f reducing its indebtedness? Think it over first. MINISTERS HOLD! MONTHLY MEET FOURTEEN MINISTERS ARE PRESENT. Dinner I s Served Christian Church I« Scene of Asso- cietion Meet; Resolution I« Introduced. The Rogue River Valley Minister ial association met in Central Point on Monday o f this week for their regular monthly meeting. The asso ciation is composed o fthe ministers of the different churches in Jackson and Josephine counties and repre sents nearly all the religious force o f the valley. Rev. Jouett. P. Bray, is president o f the association and Rev. T. H. Temple is secretary. There were present for the meeting Monday, Revs. Woodworth, Gaffney and Mit- chelmore of Ashland; Revs. Lawrence Johnson, Howe, Iverson and Bray from Medford; Revs. Moser and Fields from Grants Pass; Rev. R. W. Nelson, Phoenix; Rev. Oscar T. Morgan, Eagle Point; Rev. Wm. M. Carle, Rogue River and Rev. J. M. Johnson, Central Point. The meeting was held in the Christian church. The Junior Young Women’s class o f the Christian Sun day school served a splendid lunch at 12:30 in the Rose cafe building at fifty cents per plate. After the routine business of the association was finished, the pro gram of the hour was taken up. Rev. E. J. Johnson of the English Luther an church o f Medford presented a paper on the anbject: “ Christian Edu cation the Solution of Every Prob- le mof Lifs.” Mr. Johnson dealt with the subjoi’t from the view-point that education is thoroughly Christ ian only when it brings the individ ual into vital contact with Jesus Christ. The paper was discussed by several o f the ministers. One constructive action the asso ciation took was to adopt a resolu tion to the effect that all the mem bers o f the association are asked to present the subject o f the “ Family G LEN DALE GETS MORE PEOPLE Altar,’’ in at least one sermon during the month o f November, and that an Grants Pa«« to Lose Train Helper effort be made to enlist more o f the Crews When Men Ordered to Move members of the churches to establish family altars.
