A N D YOU KNOCK ALONE I. G. SHAW The spirit o f the Booster is as catching as the mumps or the measels The sour continance o f the croak er is as repulsive to sanity and de cency as the smell of second hand onions in a crowded church pew. The smile of the optomist, is moral sunlight, which quickens in the mind and heart of “ the other fellow.” The latent germs o f confidence in God, and respect for the humanity of his neighbor; and, the activities of the “ peptomist,” the man who is too busy enjoying, achieving, accomp lishing the worth while, to imbide the germs o f suggestion that dwarf and kill his better self is as refreshing rain to the withering leaf, upon the sensabilities and will o f folks who come in contact with him. The sadest thing in life is to hear a human “ knocker” . It is as though a man or a woman had burned out the “ conrod” o f sanity, decency and self respect in the mechanism of life with the disagreeable noise of their mental and moral misfortunes. I have heard a car hopping along “ on three legs” on a level road, where no sign o f a "grade” was ap parent. I have also heard men and women in the midst o f plenty, in an environment which Nature and Na tures God alike had gone the limit to fill with the elements o f content ment, peace and helpfulness an they jerked along with some heaven-born facutly fouled by neglect, or put out o f “ contact” because of the constant splashing of gossip, slander, calamity or “ hard times” which persistently met, without opposition will make impossible the normal “ explosion” o f healthful, purposeful, helpful, con structive and humane incentive. Many a man and woman is simply “ missing” on the road o f life, in the way o f usefulness, in the channels <^f real human endeavor; not because o f “ hsrd luck” but because o f cloud ed “ point of contact” An autaist with a machine in the same condition will clean a spark plug and drive on making the “ grade,” coming and go ing. Some folks, like that “ slam” on the Ford, “ though they coast through the valleys they are towed up the hills,” not because there isn’t enough “ energy” in their make up to climb the “ grades” of life; but because without thinking, without concern, without regard for the commonest laws that govern human progress they only know how to “ turn on the gas;” care for the divine machinery o f the mind, regard for the splendid mechanism of the human body, the power and laws o f “ suggestion” (which are after all but “ traffic signals” on the highway o f li/e.) These are no part o f the equipment T h ere isn't a valley in the w orld, m ore • ichly blessed • with clim ate, soil, scen ery, pow er, m ineral, play (ro u n d , and every natural resource that the heart o f man cou ld desire than ou r ow n R ogu e river valley. If any where on earth the best in human life aught to the universal lot it surely is in this valley! Let us “ tighten up our bearing” clean a few “ spark plugs” and keep in mind the fact that there are in but three points o f contact with the forces of life. These are "fa ith , hope and love, and their greatest o f these is L O V E . Don’t let them any one o f them or all of them get fouled with grease of carbon “ dead chip” let us keep them clean, adjusted and “ set,” then with the driving energies of honest de sires and clean ambitions; and with a decent respect for the rights of others let us pay heed to the laws o f traffic on the great highway of life, and “ travel,” rather than just to “ jerk along.” Boost and the gang boosts with you, knock and you knock alone.
