Rev. I. G. Shaw haa returned
P O IN T S O F IN T E R E S T ON E A S T
from Southern California, much
ERN TO UR
pleased with the trip and that sec
tion. He heard Mrs. McPherson
speak at the Angelus Temple and
says the crowd was immense and the
talk interesting. Mr. Shaw also
states that real estate is changing
hands rapidly and new towns spring
ing up. He gives the people credit
for being real boosters.
Programs for the all day service
for young people have been printed,
and are being widely distributed, ex
tending a cordial invitation to all to
take part in the meetings next Sun
day at the Union church.
A card from Mrs. J. H. Snyder
states that the family is located at
724 Twenty-fourth street, Ogden,
Utah, anu they expect to remain
there indefinitely as Mr. Snyder has
employment and they are otherwise
comfortably settled.
Mr. Cowley, ex-mayor o f Central
Point, and Henry Riley, were up
from Dunsmuir, California, the first
of the week, paying a short visit to
old acquaintances.
Miss Ferguson, a sister o f Bill,
left today for Medford and will soon
go to San Jose, California, near
which place she has a. position as
teacher in a school.
W. H. Norcross is leaving today
for a two weeks’ visit in Oakland,
California.
His brother, whom he
has gone to see, is ill.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Sterling
Richmond, on Sunday, August 29, a
daughter, whose name has been
chosen as Helen Louise. Mrs. Rich
mond and the little girl are at the
Community Hospital in Medford.
Mrs. H. P. Jewett has as guests
* this week two sisters, Mrs. Marie
Pi Putnam and two children, and Mrs.
Ethel McCoy with her daughter, Mar
garet. Mrs. McCoy has returned to
in her home in Salem and Mrs. Putnam,
who is also from Salem, has remain
Pi
ed for a longer stay.

Major Cunningham, after dispos
ing of his household goods and other
possessions here, has left for Enter
2 prise, Oregon, where he has pur
> chased property.
Marion Mayfield, of near Crescent
m
in the Deschutes River section, is
here visiting relatives, including Mrs.
Mayfield and mother, who live in
Central Point.

wayi are among the best in the U.
H., the one most noted being the Nat
ional Pike, built 75 year: age. The
bridges that were built at that time
are still used, and are kept up-to-
date by an occasional application o f
white-wash.
The travel over this
road is heavy, it being estimated
from a certain point, that from five
to six thousand cars pass daily.
No grade is as steep as those in
the Siskiyous and occasionally white
wooden crosses are seen. These
mark the spot where at some time
some one has been killed.
(This
seems to us an excellent reminder
and we wonder if a similar system
on the Pacific highway might cause
drivers to drive more cautiously.)
This road is No. 1, as it was the
first road construction to be given
Federal Aid. The speed limit is 35
miles an hour and an arrest for
speeding is seldom known. At Woods-
field, Ohio, Mr .Faber met an old
time friend from Iowa and the two
went together to the Centennial Ex
position, o f which we expect to hear
later.
We are grateful to Mr. Faber for
this brief review o f his trip and we
trust it mjty be o f as much interest
to our readers as it has been to us.
