Presentation o f class Violin Modern High School Structure to be Complete September 13 Construction is now progressing rapidly on this new high school structure, for which a bond issue o f $40,000 was voted February 11 for the purpose of construc ting and equipping. It will be ready fo r use at the beginning of the fall term in September. The building is located on the present school grounds facing the Pacific highway and it will be so placed that a central heating plant between the new build ing and the present school house will care for the heating o f both. The building will be o f reinforced concrete with a stucco exterior, finished with Medusa white. It has a front o f 148 feet with provisions for future class rooms to the number o f fourteen or eighteen, at the rear. The present unit under con struction contains a large study hall and nine class rooms capable of accommodating 350 students. The department basis is being used. The commercial department consists o f two rooms separated by a glass partition, one room to be used for typing, the other for bookkeeping and shorthand. The typing room has a maximum capacity o f 20 and the bookkeeping o f 30. Two rooms, one to be equipped for laboratory and one for lecture work, cnstitutes the science department. The domestic science department consists o f two rooms, one the cooking laboratory, the other the sewing and art room. Both o f these rooms are large and well lighted and will be thoroughly equipped. Provisions are also made for classes in English, languages and mathe matics. A teachers’ rest room, superintendent’s office and library are all carefully planned and placed to produce an efficient administration of the schools. - A bell system with program clock; modem heating system; electric lighting, in all rooms; an adequate ventilating system, light and airy toilets with magnesite floors; magnesite tread on stairs; fire bells on all outside doors, and light finish in woodwork, are several other features which will put this building in a class by itself. The sum o f $38,856.02 will cover the cost including general construction, heating and plumbing, electric wiring, architects’ fees, inspector blackboards, light ing fixtures, and wiring for the electric clock system. Contracts totaling $36,434.30 awarded for the construction include the general construction for $28,536.32 awarded to R. I. Stuart and Gilbert Stuart o f Medford. The heating and plumbing contract awarded to Keyser and Schmidle o f Roseburg, at $6.895.53, and the electric wiring contract let to the Peoples Electric Store at Medford, at $1,002.45. ............H. She was elected to mem bership in Pot and Quill, national literary society last winter, and last Friday she was pledged to Theta Sigma Phi, national pro fessional journalistic fraternity for women She was awarded an Oregon “ O " for a year’s faithful service on the staff o f the Emerald, U. o f O. daily paper, and was given a $6.00 prize for being the best re porter on the staff. Of late she has been serving ns day editor on the paper. She was in charge of the annual Emerald ban quet Friday, at which the awards were given. Ernest Harris: Studying forestry at the University o f Washington. Annete Heckman: Annette is a Sen ior in Physical Education at the University o f Oregon. Donald Wilson, treasurer As the school draws to a close for the summer vacation the officers o f the Student Body will automatically discontinue to hold office. Even though they pass out o f office this year they will be remembered for their ability as capable leaders o f the student body association. The student association officers are elected at the close o f the school year by members of the association. The officers elected for the ensuing term are: Pres ident. HOLIDAYS Honor Cup W on by Carl Hover An alumni association, a long needed auxiliary' to the Central Point high school, was organized following a reunion o f graduate* after the high school alumni basketball game Monday, December 28, 11 ) 26 . Officer» were elected, among them Earl Weaver as president, a constitution drawn up and plans made for the next annual meeting to be in the form of a banquet during the Chfistmaa holidays o f 11)26. Rules governing the awarding o f the cup are as follows: The student must hsve spent at least three years at Central Point high school immediately preceeding graduation, and that 1-2 o f his or her grades must be A or B or both, and shall have no grade below C, or 80. Grades for the one year the student may have spent outside of Central Point high school will he accepted at face or a» what the principal may determine to he their real value. The Honor Cup, presented to the Central Point high school in 1922 by E. H. Hedrick, then superintendent of schools o f Central Point, is awarded at the close of each school year, to the Senior o f the highest standing in scholarship, student activ ities and popularity.
