In the American tradition we are not given to recognition of
titles of nobility. (See Section 9 of A rticle I of the Constitut
ion) . B it the Constitution which we love and respect does not

fellow Americans. American history is dotted with rich ex
amples of such lives and real Americans are fully justified in
feeling a wholesome pride In conferring a title of greatness upon
the memory of Lincolns and others whoae lives added immeasur
ably to our noble heritage.
The death of Fulton Lewis, > . on last Sunday adds another
star in our firmam ent of nobility. He loved God and country-
he hated every Insidious effort u, undermine American ideals’
and objectives. He spent his unusually competent talents in an
unending fight against any of low or high estate who would con
temptuously tear down or dilute true Americanism; he feared
only his free and w illin g obligation as an American patriot.

and intellectuals of our deteriorating national fabric, he en
dured the abusive censure, character castigation and economic
and damning reprisals of an unconscionable clique of p olitical

airline machinist strike came along, both democrats and repub

Negroes are a minority in the United States, but a minority
with growing vote power. Congress has Just about made up its
mind to do something about the race riots; peaceful marches
that always end in violence; Black Power killings and threats of
super violence. Most of us doubt that the trouble-m aking Negro
leaders have the blessing of more than a small minority of their
own number. Nevertheless, Mr. Johnson and his aides are
counting heavily on Negro votes in November and don’t want to
get on the bad side of Negro leaders three months before the
election. So legislation against rioting and subversive peace
breaking w ill have to wait until the voting is done.
