THURSDAY, DK?EMBER 9, 1965 PACE 5 CENTRAL PôftfT TIMES Wafer Films Available Water is a well-known, coo- PacifK Northwest troversial quantity. Such questions as its cleanli ness—or lack of same, and whether or not we should pipe part of our plentiful supply to parched areas of the Southwest are subjects which inspire hot debate amongst both politicians and the public. Some two doxen, 16 millimeter films, varying in length but all concerned one way or another with water and its uses, pollu tion, and conservation are avail able for public rental through the film library of the Division of Continuing Education in Cor vallis. Among the listings are "Wa ter," a U-minute, animated pre sentation of the world water problem, and "The Problem with Water Is People," which notes, for some 33 minutes, the prob letns of water supply, distribu tion, pollution, needs and use among the Colorado River and adjoining states (water from the Colorado is used by Los Angeles residents). Later, it is abused by industrial wastes, city sew age, and construction and log ging work along its banks. The brief film points out that s responsible agencies, both pri § vate and federal, need to evalu ate each river in this country and determine the most satis factory use of each, rather than permit indiscriminate abuse of tnese natural resources. "Good Riddance" concerns $ river areas in the Ohio Valley which have been treated for sewage and industrial waste. Twenty-four minutes long, the film points out that, thanks to the efforts of a special commis sion, many polluted waters in this area of more than 2 million people have been cleaned up, even though much remains to be done. All four films are in color. Rental fee, for one to two days use, for "W ater" is 63.00; f o r "The Problem With Water Is People,” 66.50; "W ild Rive«.” 63.50. and “ Good Riddance.” 66.50.
