Advertizing Manager To DEADLINE.. . MONDAY 5:00 P. M. SOCIETY Mr. and M rs. Charles Hewitt journeyed to Prospect over the weekend to visit her p ar ents, Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Beck. They enjoyed moving pictures of the floods while visiting there although they found them rather heart- sickening. ♦♦♦ Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Thompson and sons, Kevin ana Kenneth enjoyed the bright sunny weather last Sunday as they drove to Mt. Shasta for the day. ♦♦♦ Mr. and M rs. Ray Honeyman are expected the first part of next week at the home of Mr. and M rs. Don Sprinkle. Mr. Honeyman is retired from the U.S. Army and is the brother-in-law of M rs. Sprinkle. They will stay here for a few days prior to leaving for Corvallis where they will make their home. The family will be jour neying here from Georgia. ♦♦♦ Little Lori Ann Pinkham, 18 month old dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Berk Pinkham is now home from the hospital and feeling much better. Miss Janis Owens, daughter of M rs. Annie Owings, was at home from S.O .C. over the past weekend. I **♦ : M rs. Ken Snook, daughter-in-law of Mr, and Mrs. Ralph Snook is expected home from Rogue Valley Memorial hospital the end of this week following surgery. According to reports, she is coming along nicely. ♦♦♦ Mr. and M rs. C.A. Wellman called on Mr. and Mrs. Arhtur Foote on Sunnyvale Lane last Saturday afternoon. A weekend guest at the home of Mrs. Osa Pence was her sister, Mrs. Enid Davis of Brewster, Washington. Mrs. Davis has been a house guest of her son at Grants Pass since shortly after Christmas and has been traveling to Central Point on weekends to visit her siste r. ♦♦♦ M rs. Marion Peterson has been caring for the 4 sons of Dr. and Mrs. Roland Mayer while they vacationed at Sun Valley for the past 10 days. They returned home Sunday. ♦♦♦ Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Wisely will be enter taining at a card party Saturday night. Guests will be Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wisely and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Owings of Medford. Dr. and Mrs. Max Flowers J r . attended a cabinet meeting of District 3 Lions Club in Roseburg over the past weekend. Dr. Flowers is the Deputy District Governor for Jackson County. Mrs. Flowers reports having a wonder ful time at the meet, including enjoying a dinn er dance at the Roseburg Country Club. The Editor — If truth can be perceived ’twixt the echoes and shadows, that little understood bugaboo, the proposed New Constitution, is flexing its tired muscles pre paratory tc '-rawling amongst us once moer. Are we to believe that leopards really do not change their spots and things like this, even as old soldiers, never die? Evidently, they do not even seem to fade away. Wonder why? To date, we bave been grant ed two reprieves — the first when 13 of our Slate Senators, in 1963, refused to be convinced this rare offering should be placed upon the ballot until the people had been given an op portunity to study it (bless them) and the second postponement was provided by the State Supreme Court when it refused to allow the measure on the 1964 ballot. If the people, twice w ill not now take the time and make the effort to study it and leam for themselves why its adoption could be dangerous and unacceptable, they w ill deserve the fruit of their in difference and so be it! Your present Constitution is one of the outstanding in this great Republic. Why? Simply because it is a constitution of, by and for the people and this priceless embodiment of it w ill apparently never cease to enrage certain factions which just cannot believe the people should be involved in their own rule. Does the present consti tution need revision? Yes, indeed ! However, that which it requires the least is to be replaced by something which completly changes the basic precepts of peoples’ government and removes a substantial quantity of the rights and priveleges successfully enjoyed by the people of Oregon for more than a century. You are not enjoined or even expected to blindly believe this condemnation of a proposed document which can control your lives and that of your posterity into an interminable future. While it is merely my desire lo point an accusing finger at this ev il appearing thing, it w ill eventi a lly be your solemn duty to s it in final judg ment. To judge wisely w ill require knowledge. Send at once to ’Constitution Revision Com mission, ’ ’ State Capitol, Salem i -for your free c py of this un— believable document and read — and pray! DearLfr. Have just received from her your “ Souvenir Edition” , dated Jan. 14, and to me, very interesting. I was a member of the Rogue River Valley Band and was in the picture taken at the R.R. station .July 4, 191_0_- We played that day at Woodville (now Rogue River) for their celebration. The scenes in Jacksonville bring back many interesting memories. We usually vis it in Central Point once or twice a year and would enjoy a visit with you when next up that way.
