There is a move on, in the state of Oregon, to change
the caricature which is to represent Old Oregon. In the
place of the old man it is hyped to find a suitable young
production to represent the youth, pep and progress of a
com paratively new state with worlds of advantages and
natural resources. Prizes are being offered for the best
cartoons for this purpose. The Oregon State Cham ber of
Commerce is taking a hold of the contest in ••onjunction
with their build Oregon contest and anyone w ho have any
bright ideas may present them to the local cham ber of
Commerce officers who will in turn mail them to the state
organization. W e m erely m ention this as a m atter of
interest to our readers. So far as the cartoon representa
tion of Old Man Oregon is concerned, we see little ad v an t
age of a change. As we recall the "Old M an" he is not
asleep nor is his eye hazy with age. True he is pictured
as old but as we have alw ays looked upon age as a symbol
of wisdom we naturally felt that the “old m an” was all
rig h t—perhaps more blessed with wisdom and experience
than would a younger man.
