NEALE SALES Medford Tent & Awning Co. moon is insignificant in com pari-! sor to the amount that comes from the sun. Hence we could not expect eitiier the planets or the moon appreciably to affect the weather. They do not supply enough heat, the one thing that causes all our weather changes. To most people the above reason ing may seem quite sufficient and ; conclusive, but there is still an other and an entirely different method o f testing the whole ques tion. We can observe the po- j sitions o f the planets and the kind of weather during each posi-j tion and see whether the same sort o f weather always comes when the planets are in the samel position. This kind o f examina tion has often been made, both for the planets and for the moon, but not the slightest influence o f either upon our weather has ever been found. To sum up: We have every rea son to believe that neither the planets nor the moon can have any appreciable effect on the weather, because they furnish so little heat upon which all weath er changes ultimately depend, and this belief is fully supported by weather records. The belief, still to be found in ail countries, that the planets and the moon do affect the weather, never had any scientific basis whatever; it is only a remnant o f the many superstitions generat ed and fostered by that other and greater superstition, astrology. ♦ ♦ ♦ Youth is what we all love to have and to hold, and since Ponce De Leon’s time many a way of conserving it has been prescrib ed: Dosage, drinking sour milk, systems o f exercise, bathing, rub bing. Any one o f these things may help the individual. And, cautions Collier’s Weekly, let us not forget that youth is in great measure a g ift o f the spirit, Children are young because for them life abounds; they find the springs o f energy within and stores o f refreshment without. IHE WANDERING BOY “ Oh, where is my wandering boy tonight?” has been sung for thousands o f times with tender ness and pathos, but how many o f the singers or hearers, ever gave heed to the pertinent in quiry o f the song? Statistics are frequently published showing the great majority o f our boys spend ing their nights away from the better influences o f home. As they grow into youth and early manhood they seem to grow into the world and worldly ways. I f the singer’s plaintive question could be answered imblicly in any ordinary meeting where the song is sung, it would cause a tremen dous sensation, and many a heart would bow down in sorrow and pain. For some reason it is just as well that the nightly haunts of “ the boys” are not specifically mentioned in local public meet ings, and yet the matter is one o f common report. The boys are too often out o f home, out o f the church and Sunday school, out of organizations o f moral character, and into the world “ for all it is worth.” —Ex.
