Three years ago I customed myself

wearin’ a suit fer two years around the
farm when I ’d come tew town, a.little
girl’d yell out tew her maw, “ Muther.
oh. muther, one of the rag carpets he z

a delicate temperament like me.
One day three years ago, a spruce
young guy sneaked me into a store
marked “ Toggery,” and two entire out

“ Uncle, it’s you,” stz the spruce
guy.
“ Holi spruce tree!” sez I, an’ my
chest began tew buck up.
Tew hours later, with a fine big black

I laid down the whatswhat to one of
them smarty apple buyers till he just
scared-like signed a contract callin’ fer
$2000 more fer my crop than I ever got.
An’ , Bill Toggery, that ere $30 av j

A Raxorlasa Race.
In all monarchies the killing o f the
king or emperor, the Law Journal of
London points out, "Is perhaps the
gravest form o f high treason.” The
Journal adds: “ In one country, Italy,
sentence of death cannot be Imposed,
a«d In 'Portugal we believe that capl-j
tal punishment Is nobused. If not abol
ished. Under the law o f treason of
the United Kingdom, which has been
applied to most o f the king's domin
ions abroad, with or without statutory
modifications, the killing o f the king
Is a capital offence by the statute o f
treasons. It Is there described as ‘com
passing or Imagining the death o f our
lord the king.’ By later legislation (of
1900) the elaborate provisions special
to trials for treason do not apply to ivs-
sassiuntlon of'th e sovereign or a direct
attompt on his life, and such offenses
are tried in the lam e manner as willful
murder. The resurt Is that In sub-*
stance, though not In form, the killing
of the sovereign Is triable and punish-
able In the same manner as the willful
murder of a subject, but the crowu
may direct the execution to be by de
capitation Instead of hanglxg.”
