The rats grew fat on the stuff they sent her and she made a complaint about it to the firm. All the satisfaction she got was, “ You haven’t got the right kind o f rats.” There is at least one sportsman in Oregon who “ cannot tell a lie.” He ives in Portland. He went hunting the other day and returned empty handed. H e didn’ t tell how the bear he wounded got away or how the deer he shot fell over the cliff, but came out flat-footed and acknowledged that he saw nothing to shoot at. An Ashland man went fiBhing the other day, and the sun becoming hot, he pulled off his coat and hung it on the fence, pinning a note to it which read, “ This coat has got small-pox.” Whelk he returned he discovered that his coat had been stolen and a note was pinned to the fence whieh read, “ Thanks, Iv’e had small-pox.” A young man from Grants Pass at- | tended a hop in the country the other , night, and during the evening he took j ’a drink of water out of a bucket that some joker had dropped a fish in, and it being dark he swallowed the fish before he knew what had happened. He did the trick so easily that he soon became boastful and offered to bet $20 that he could swallow a live dog catch- as-catch-can fashion, with no limits to the size. DIRECTORS-J. W.
