W . K. MeKissick, a miner employed
at the Blue Ledge mine, came to hia
home in Medford laat Saturday and
found fault with the conduct of hia
wife.
A fter indulging in a atreet fight Sat
urday afternoon with William Law, a
brick mason whom he accused of being
the deapoiler of his home, he Sunday
afternoon swore out a warrant for the
arrest of Law, who had fled to Grants
Pass. The recorder gave him the war
rant to mail to the authorities at that
place.
As he left the town hall a freight
train bound north was about to depart
and he wai seemingly seized with a
sudden idea to take the warrant in per
son to where it could be served. In
trying to swing under a flat car with
the apparent purpose of riding on the
breakrods, he lost his grip and was
drawn under the wheels and instantly
killed.
Two members of the train
crew saw the accident but were, of
course, powerless to prevent the occur
ence. The train was stopped as soon
as possible and detained until the coro
ner was communicated with, who or
dered the remains removed. Coroner
Kellogg arrived here in the evening and
decided that an inquest was not neces
sary.
McKissick was about35 years of age,
a native of Missouri and a miner by oc
cupation. He worked at the Greenback
mine for about three years. He lived
at one time in McCloud, Cal. Supt. F.
W . Carnehan, o f the Blue Ledge, speaks
of him in terms of praise. A pathetic
feature o f the tragedy was the fact
that some person in haste to be the
bearer o f bad news, proceeded to the
home of the deceased and informed his
wife of what had happened, and she
was permitted to come and view the
gruesome sight as it lay beneath the
car in all its repulsiveness. Her dis
tress was heartrending in the extreme.
The funeral was held Monday after
noon and was well attended by a num
ber of friends o f the deceased. — Med
ford Tribune.
