Mr. Minor, a prosperous resident o f

for a new residence.
Miss M. D. Caldwell and her mother
have returned from Rogue river, where
they spent a month or so during the
spring, and will spend the summer in
town.
M. Marshall, who resides east from
town and who is known as a warm ex
ponent o f the creamery proposition, has
ordered lumber for a fine new residence
on his ranch.

John R. Cook left a fine sample of

The Ladies Won
M onday was ladies’ day in Central
Point, at least so far as the equal suf
frage amendment went. The fair ones
who wish to be accorded the same po
litical rights as men,

equal suffrage club erected a booth at
the corner o f Second and Pine and from
early morning until the time for clos

THE ELECTION
The election V onday passed off quiet
ly in Central Point in spite o f the fact
that one o f the heaviest votes ever cast
in this precinct was polled. One Hun
dred and eighty-five electors exercised
their right o f franchise and the election
board was kept pretty busy all day. The
precinct shows a decided democratic ma
jority, but in the county and state gen
erally, the reverse is true and the
result in Oregon shows a ¡big republi
can majority, with the single exception
o f Governor Chamberlain, who has been
re-elected by a handsome vote.
Jackson county has gone republican
by a good safe margin, except in the
case o f L. L. Mu lit and E. T. Staples,
for state senator. Mr. ' ulit, ti e dem
ocratic candidate, seems to be in the
lead, but at this writing it is believed
that the official count will be necessary
to determine who is elected.

If anybody asks you about Central
Point, don’ t forget to tell them that it
is coming to the front faster than any
town in this section o f the state.
A t a meeting o f the directors o f the
First National bank, o f Medford, held
last Thursday, it was decided to in
crease the capital stock from $25,000
to $50,000. The banking business is
growing with the other industries o f
the valley "and will continue to do so as
long as the general development o f the
country continues.
