Mr. Minor, a prosperous resident o f
Cains creek, was in town a few days
ago ordering lumber from J. M. Gay
for a new residence.
Miss M. D. Caldwell and her mother
have returned from Rogue river, where
they spent a month or so during the
spring, and will spend the summer in
town.
M. Marshall, who resides east from
town and who is known as a warm ex
ponent o f the creamery proposition, has
ordered lumber for a fine new residence
on his ranch.
A beautiful bouquet o f roses, on ex

Mr. and Mrs. C. fj. Emerv have re
turned from a visit with friends and
relatives in the Willamette valley and
at their former home near Hardman,
Morrow county.
The Medford laundry wagon will call

San Francisco, employed. First class

John R. Cook left a fine sample of
ball barley at this office the other day
from the ranch o f Mr. Boosey, near
Jacksonville. The stalks are more than
five feet long and the heads are execep-
tionaly large and well filled.
One o f the rankest fakes that ever
tried the patience o f a Central Point
audience in the show line purported to
give an alleged reproduction o f the San
Francisco fire in the opera house Mon

ner to follow, which they did. While
they were hurriedly packing their
grips on the sidewalk some o f the
crowd procured a rail and had it not
been for the presence o f the marshal
the itinerant showman would have been
treated to a free ride at the hands of
the buncoed crowd. A large crowd was
present and it was estimated the raw
fakirs took away almost $50 They got
out o f town on the midnight train and
it is understood their destination was
Yreka, California. The show was sup
posed to be a moving picture proposi

that some o f the scenes alleged to rep
resent the San Francisco fire showed a
heavy snow on the ground and the fire
men at work clothed in fur overcoats.
The Ladies Won
M onday was ladies’ day in Central
Point, at least so far as the equal suf
frage amendment went. The fair ones
who wish to be accorded the same po
litical rights as men,
went after
votes like veterans and the result
showed that they g o t-s o m e . The
equal suffrage club erected a booth at
the corner o f Second and Pine and from
early morning until the time for clos
ing the polls they sew ed ice cream,
cake and other delicacies to everybody,
free o f charge, and the result was that
the equal suffrage amendment carried
in the precinct by eight votes.

THE ELECTION
The election V onday passed off quiet
ly in Central Point in spite o f the fact
that one o f the heaviest votes ever cast
in this precinct was polled. One Hun
dred and eighty-five electors exercised
their right o f franchise and the election
board was kept pretty busy all day. The
precinct shows a decided democratic ma
jority, but in the county and state gen
erally, the reverse is true and the
result in Oregon shows a ¡big republi
can majority, with the single exception
o f Governor Chamberlain, who has been
re-elected by a handsome vote.
Jackson county has gone republican
by a good safe margin, except in the
case o f L. L. Mu lit and E. T. Staples,
for state senator. Mr. ' ulit, ti e dem
ocratic candidate, seems to be in the
lead, but at this writing it is believed
that the official count will be necessary
to determine who is elected.
Following is the result in this pre
cinct on the most important offices:
Governor—Chamberlain, 108; Withy-
comb, 58; Barzee, 16.

based on information obtained from
different sources and from persons en
gaged in supplying material and in con
struction work, shows that at least $50,-
000 will be expended in the town during
the present summer * in permanent
buildings.
A partial list o f new buildings now
under way or that will be commenced
soon, follows:
School house, $15,000; creamery, $5,-
500; bank building, 42500; F. H. Hop
kins’ residence, $10,000; Mrs. G. M.
Gibson, residence, $1200; ' rs. G. W.
Jeffers, cottage, $800; Isaac Estes, res
idence, $1000; Mr. Clarke, residence,
$1000; Dr. Pleasants, residence, $1000;
Wm. Kinney, cottage, $800; James
Messner, cottage, $400; W. W. Scott,
residence, $1000. In addition to these
a number o f other new buildings are
projected, the lumber for which has
already been ordered, while a number
have already been completed and are
now occupied since the beginning of
the year.
If anybody asks you about Central
Point, don’ t forget to tell them that it
is coming to the front faster than any
town in this section o f the state.
A t a meeting o f the directors o f the
First National bank, o f Medford, held
last Thursday, it was decided to in
crease the capital stock from $25,000
to $50,000. The banking business is
growing with the other industries o f
the valley "and will continue to do so as
long as the general development o f the
country continues.

The object o f all development
leagues is to induce immigration
o f good citizens from the eastern
states to the Rogue River Valley.
The Rogue River Land Co.
has been a pioneer in this devel
opment business, having made
the first move in the valley to in
duce desirable immigrants to re
move here and to partake o f our
advantages and climate. In the
last two years we have located a
large number o f the best citizens
to be found in the valley. Cen
tral Point has attracted many of
them.
The Rogue River Land com

to its customers. W e will in a
short time again send a man east
to extol the merits o f this sec

boost our way. It is high time
for all sections o f this valley to
