The new registration law is, as is
usual with such laws, destined to
work a hardship on some honest vo
te rs before it is amended or repealed.
The w riter has legally voted for
th ree presidents, and now is com
pelled to lose his vote through being
born a subject of Queen V ictoria and
im m igrating to this country a t the
age of two, and acquiring citizenship
by virtue oi his fa th e r's naturaliza
tion. T hat is, he is compelled to pro
duce his p a re n t’s papers or take out
his own afte r voting for th ree presi
dents. The law is presum ably in
tended as a means to defeat election
frauds in cities, and therefore a just
one; but it will likely cost ell parties
numerous votes. There is no provfe
ion covering such cases, of which

Wase< will be heartily glad when the
quarantine between the two cities is
raised. It is absolutely necessary
th a t business be resumed as quickly
as ftossible between Wasco and Moro.
