A fire set by the passenger train
Tuesday afternoon burned over an
area of about 100 acres of stubble on
the Roy Powell farm south of Moro,
destroying three loads of hay and 186
sacks of wheat that had not yet been
picked up by the crew. The fire also
got into the Meloy farm, burning
about an acre of standing grain; s I bo
into the O. P. King farm, where
heavy standing grain would have
haade a disastrous blaze, but, fortu
nately, it was stopped at the fence
line; it also crossed into the Bruce
Kee farm, but only to the extent of
about five acres.
The Bruce Kee combine was work
ing in the direct line of the fire, but
by setting the horses to a gallop the
machine was taken out of danger.
Men from Moro went to the fire in
autos and the train, after leaving
most of its crew at the fire, made a
trip to Grass Valley for more fire
fighters and wet sacks. Considering
the possibilities and extent of the
blaze the damage was nominal.
