either of the contesting parties buy
a farm lying on both aides of the
river, antT thus controls the entire
canyon, that party will have to he
reckoned with in the courts before
it will allow rivale to build a rail
road over its land. 8ome of the
lands bought by Porter Bios, are
said to contiol both aides of the
river and evidently were bought
with the view of preventing th*
Harriman people from securing i
road bed.
Besides the one west of Grass Val
ley, Porter Bros, have established
three camps: O nset Shearer bridge
one at the mouth of the river, and
one at White Horse rapids, They
are rushing materials to the front
rapidly, and with their North Bank
and Baily Gitzertconnections have
scored numerous remarkable suc
cesses the past eight days.
On the other hand, supplies are
being rushed through for Twohy
Bros, with all possible speed. Out
fitting trains, loaded with construc
tion materials are given right of
way over limited passenger trains
on the O. R. N One such train of
16 cars going through without a
«top last week. There are five steam
shovels now at work and 16 others
are said to be on the way from va
rious parts of the O R. N. system.
