There are many here who do not 1 e-
lieve the story, as it is very early in the
season for snow slides. Officers of the
Pioneer sav the story was brought to
Skaguay Sunday evening by three men,
who t«»ld it in such a thrilling manner
1 as to leave no doubt as to its truthful­
ness. They descnlxsi the avalanche as
consisting of rocks, ice and dirt, the
mass having l>cen l«M»s«*ned by the re­
cent unprecedented hard rain which
has been fallling continuously for the
past month.
A ll the bridges on the Skaguay river

a raging torrent.
W. W. Sprague, of Tacoma, who

the Pioneer.
