Portland were week end visitors
at the home of her parents, Mr
and Mrs E E . Barnum.
Mr and Mrs James Tlwater
have gone to Pasco where lie will

Mr and Mrs Giles French drove
to Hood River Sunday where he
talked to the Hood River Histor­
ical society at Pine Grove Grange
hall.
Second Lieutenant Patricia Mc­
Lean, Air Force nuise corps, and
Darlene Gochnaer were week end
visitors at Darlene's parents
home. On the way to the ranch
the girls stopped at The Dades
hospital to visit Darlene’s grand
mother, Mrs S. D. Gochnauer,
who had been confined the past
ueek due to another stroke. Tues­
day Mrs Gochnauer was taken to
a nursing home at Redmond.
•Frank Sayrs, Moro, recently
purchased an Aberdeen Angus
bull from Earl Shields, Mt. Ver­
non, Oregon.
Women of the American Leg­
ion auxiliaries of Antelope, Kent
Grass Valley, Moro and Wasco
met at the home of Mrs Alfred
Kock in Moro Monday forenoon
for a brunch and to entertain
and listen to Mrs Jack Larson of
Springfield, president of the state
auxiliary. About 30 attended.
Mrs Larson spoke of auxiliary
work in the hospitals at Roseburg
Portland and White City. Mrs
Faye Prislon of Eugene, parlia­
mentarian, accompanied Mrs Lar­
son and told of procedures for
delegates who attend the state
convention to be held at Pendle­
ton next August.
The Women’s Society of the
Moro Presbyterian church will
meet March 13 at the home of
Mrs Andrew Paulson. Dessert
will be served at 1:30, followed
by business meeting and pro­
gram. Mrs Max Barzee will talk
on “The Rim of East Asia” a
subject being studied by many
women’s groups. All women of
the church are invited to attend.
Health Advisors
Meet Wednesday
The Sherman County Health
Advisory Council met Wednes*
day at Beefo’s for lunch and busi­
ness. Mrs. Don McDermid pre­
sided.
Details were completed to dis­
tribute information on “Safety
In Homes” through the grade
schools of the county, kindergar­
ten through the fourth grade.
Dr. E. E. Berg reported that no
one from Sherman County had
taken the recent course taught
on medical self-help.
He stated
that there was a possibility that
the course would be given again
next fall.
Irv Rierson, sanitation author­
ity, reported and commented on
certain problems of infection pre­
sent in the county. Berg gave in­
formation on contagious dieases
in the area, also incidence of
scabies.

born to Mr and Mrs Larry Kase-
berg Feb. 28, named Cameron
Ernest, he joins two brotntrs,
Collin 3, and Kevin 2. Grand
parents of the new arrival are
Mr and Mrs L.E.Kaseberg, Mrs
Shirley Woods of Portland and
Ernest Woods of West Pakistan.
Great grandparents are Mr and
Mrs E.E.Kaseberg of The Dalles,
Mrs Margaret Woods, Dufur, Mrs
Grace Smith, Portland and Sheri
Smith of Portland.
The Cub Scout Blue and Gold
banquet honoring the 53rd birth­
day of Boy Scouts was held Feb.
22 at which time all Wasco Cubs

pot luck dinner. During the pack
meeting which followed, eleven
boys were awardedthe following:

and several cartoons were shown
to entertain the boys.
Miss Jane Root, daughter of
Mr and Mrs Vernon Root, spent
three days at The Dalles hospital
recovering from complications of
the flu.
Thursday night pinochle club
met at the home of Mrs Jack
Wallace with Mrs Charles Deck­
er co-hostes. High prize winner
was Mrs Dave Miller and low was
Mrs Doug Shull. Guest player fil­
ling for Mrs Lloyd Gosson was
Mrs Dan Glenz
The Rufus Grangers took their
candidates to Harlandview Wed-
neday night Feb. 27 to take the
1st and 2nd degrees Mrs Dale
Budget was musician and the sin­
gers were Mrs Walter Bruckert
and Mrs Bob Belshe. They had
seme lovely tableaus to bring out
the true meaning of grange work
Those taking the degrees were
Mr and Mrs Roy Parker, Mr and
Mrs Paul Blackburne and Mr and
Mrs James Fex of Rufus; Mr and
Mrs Robert Olson, Mr and Mrs
Oiville Blaylock and Mr and Mrs
Orval Patnode. After the work
the Home Ec club served a pot
luck supper to all.
The Rufus Grange put on a
special meeting to give the above
candidates of the two granges
the 3rd and 4th degrees The Ru­
fus grange women served refresh­
ments after the meeting. One
thing to note about this class was
that the Blaylocks, the Olsons and
the Foxs were all graduates of
HOME ECONOMICS TRIP

To increase knowledge of and
ability to evaluate boughten
items, eleven Home Ec girls
spent February 27 visiting vari-
stores in The Dalles.
Leaving the school at 8.50
Wednesday morning, the girls
first stop was at Stadelman Bonn.
Don Williams explained the his­
tory of fine China and the differ­
ence between earthen ware and
China. He showed examples of
bone China and hand painted
China, before going into crystal.
Along with this he explained
glassware, and
varying other
kinds of stainless steel and kit­
chen utensils.

the difference in better and lower
quality
linens a n d
bedding.
Brand names and
quality of
ready made garments were also
explained.
Following lunch the girls met
at Safeway for a brief run down
on
fresh vegetables,
meats,
cheese, various grade of eggs and
the convenience of frozen foods.
Then the girls were allowed down
stairs to observe the conveyor
belts used in tranporting goods,
the meat packaging room and the
frozen foods locker which several
girls entered to see if was actu­
ally -40 degrees.
Tired but better informed, the
girls returned to school in ime to
crtch the bus for home.
