and what the neighbors said-
From the hurry of harvest time
to the quietness of vacation time
is but a few days in Sherman
county whose citizens have be
come as insistent on vacations as
the working man in oth er fields.
When the combine is pulled
into the barn lot and the men paid
off, the w heat weights totaled anti
the car loaded it is only a short
time until the farms are deserted.
A neighbor may w ater the lawn
but in most cases he will not have
to milch a cow or feed a chicken.
The days of farm specialization
has stopped that.
W here do they go? Anywhere
they w ant to. He it far or near.
Many go to the beat hes and a
like num ber go to the m ountains
depending on personal preference
just as with oth er folks; some
families like to see the waves roll
in and others like to hear the sigh
of the pines.
Fortunately they
can have eith er or both if there is
disagreem ent.
Those who have .not gone or
have returned blunder alx,ut doing
the usual thing- while w aiting for

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Helgeson
and children arrived Tuesday
from th eir form er home in Mon
tana in the Kootenai valley. She
will be one of the teachers in the
grade school and he will take up
the duties of janitor. They have
their own trailer house parked
on Main street on the Loy Coch
ran property.

with all five of them present,

by most of their grandchildren,
to spend a week or more giving

J. C. Huntley, members of his
family met at Hear Springs Sun
day for a picnic and reunion. Go
ing from here were Mr. and Mrs.

success, or less, were Mr. and Mrs.
Giles French and Mr. and Mrs.

Marvin. The m ountains were full
of pickers; the bushes were not
full of berries; and the rain it
came down.
Mr. an I Mrs. Max Harzee left
last week for a trip into Montana
where they w ill visit her relatives
for a couple of weeks. Tom Wood
cock is looking after things at
home during their absence.
Miss Sylvia Zachary was here
last week end from her school at
Salem.

Mrs. Wily Knighten, having
completed her term s at LaGrande,
came home last week end and she
and Wily left for Seattle to visit
their daughter.

Colesch was partially burned in a
field on the former Art Barnum
place last week while it was be
ing used to haul hay. The fire de
partm ent was called but arrived
too late.

shower at the Methodist church
basement last week.

the guest-of-honor, Elaine, Sharon
