Mrs. E tta Moore spent a nice
weekend in The Dalles with Dr.
and Cecil Morse and seeing her
new great grand daughter while
May Ann Broun went down to her
brothers in Lebanon. Sunday they
went to their old home in Alsea
for the old-timers picnic and re
p o rt a grand time with school
mates and old time friends.
Rev. Alfred W. Solomon is spend
ing the week of August 15-22, as
a counselor at the Presbyterian
Junior High camp a t Menucha,
near Corbett. John Matteson and
Bobby Cyphers are attending the
camp.
Charles Belshee came up Sun
day to be around home for a time
and maybe buy a few head of
stock.

Lt. W alter Eslinger and family
and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Eslinger
went to Springston. Idaho over the
weekend to visit Mr. and Mrs.
Marcus Eslinger. The W alter Es
linger family left from there for
their home in California. Mr. and
Mrs. Ernest Eslinger stopped in
Garfield, Wn., on their way home
for a brief visit w ith Mrs. Grace
Wallan and her brother.
A m arriage license was Issued
at Stevenson, W ashington, August
16 to Reed Peck and Mrs. Mildred
.McLachlan and report has it that
they were m arried later that day
in a nearby W ashington town.
The employees of the first Na
tional bank in Moro and other
friends gave a surprise birthday
p a rty for Dean Shaver last Friday
evening at the Legion hall. Dean
was really surprised as he came
into the darkened room and found
his frienJs as the lights went up.
Mrs. Verne A rstill and daugh
ters, Diann and Janet, of Athena
are here this week. Elsie is taking
care of the Beauty Shop while
Mrs. Powell is at Hardman helping
with the harvest.
Mr. and Mrs. George Kruger
are now living in Athena and
working for Verne Arstill in the

fielder and pitcher for The Dalles
l^egion baseball team, played a
part in winning the district cham
pionships at Billings for Oregon.
Griggs pitched against Spokane
and won handily and Kirkelie has
been getting timely hits in every
game. The team now goes .to
Hastings, Nebraska, for the na
tional semi-finals.
