est since 1937. Oregon’s barley
crop is expected to be below last
year although a^out average. The
national oats crop, however, is
expected to exceed even the big
1945 output, but prospects for
oats In Oregon on June 1 were
10 percent under X945 and 25
percent below average.
Carryover stocks of rye are
unusually small and the wheat
carryover will be the smallest
for several years. At mid-June
wheat production was estimated’
at one billion 33 million bushels,
however, the third largest crop
of record. Thus far in June win
ter wheat has improved enough
to more than offset deterioration
in spring wheat.
In Pacific northwest states of
Oregon, Washington and Idaho,
as of June 1 wheat production
was expected to reach 128 million
bushels. That would be 11 percent
greater than last year and 31
percent above average.
