The governor had something to
say about the campaign being put
on by the Columbia Industries as
sociation which will end this week.
He said, “Quit shaking your heads
—shake a leg.”
We in the northwest, handicap-
pit? as we are from the point of
view of population, have perhaps
gotten into the habit of thinking
that we cannot do many of the
things that other communities do
in more thickly settled parts of the
nation. If we but heeded the ad
vice of the governor and really
tried we might be able to succeed
very well.
There are certain advantages
that the Columbia basin has that
no other section of the entire
United States possess. We now
have available a surplus of elec
tric power that cannot be found
in arty other section. We have
other natural resources that might
well attract new settlers and we
hkve a resourceful citizenry that
will get along In spite of any hand-
ic»ps.
With these things in our favor
there is no reason why this part
to provide a piarket so that we
on to greater achievements. These
may be possible through a reali
zation that we have products that
equal those of any place and the
upe of them by ourselves in order
to pdovide a market so that we
may encourage industry and make
room for labor.
