THE BOY SCOUTS' APPEAL
What to do with a boy? Mankind
has no older problem, nnd no other
by nnd large that so often looks pro
foundly baffling to the worried Indi
viduals who try to solve It.
One thing to do with n boy Is to
put him In the boy scouts.
That organization has celebrated Its
ninth nnnlversnry. Not many young
institutions nnre given so convincing
nn account of themselves.
It wants particularly more volunteer
leaders especially men who have had
military experience abroad. Thnt
want should be promptly, copiously,
glr.d!y met. There could hardly again
be a conjuncture so favorable for Im
pressing upon the very tissues of boys'
consciousness n vital page In Ameri
can history and In the history of de
mocracy and of the world.
Every normnl boy has a right to
mnrch. range nnd enmp. It satisfies
n deep, old Instinct In him. The great
business of education Is to build upon
the boy's Instincts and the girl's. The
boy scouts is one of the soundest edu
cational undertakings. Democracy's
great war has given It nn unusual op
portunity which everybody should,
gladly help It to realize. Saturday
Evening Post.

KING WEARS SCOUT UNIFORM.
The king of Spnln is a full believer
In the value of the boy scouts. Al
fonso Is the only reigning monarch
who wears at times the scout uni
form, and ho has fully grasped the
spirit and the Inner meaning of the
scout alms.
He especially praises their splendid
public services in times of difficulty
when they give valuable help In run
ning the postal and telegraph work,
in doing fire brlgnde duty. In attend
ing the sick, and ven In some cases
burying tho dead.
In tho woods which form the roynl
demesne n couple of miles outside the
city the king has given them a perma

n small but well equipped hut as hos
