RAND REALTY COMP'NY Lumlliig Iimuritiu'o Agtnoy Sommor Bldg., Hakor, Or s THE $500,000 BOND ISSUE Tho $500,000 road bond issue which is up for the ratification of of the voters of Baker County at tho election June 3rd i3oncof the utmost Importance to Ihe county. This is tho first time that the county has had n comprehensive road program to pass upon and one that moans real road building if Baker takes advantage of it, The County Court has specifioJ tho roads upon which this money will be spent and jt cannot be ex panded upon tiny other roads. fhc four roadsjis outlined by the court, showing the eetimutod cost of each and the amount which tho county will expend upon each aro as follows: The Old Otogon Trail, which is part of tho through State High way, and which runs from North Powder to tho Malheur County line, near Old's Ferry, will ,re (piire an estimated cost of $618, 000, of which tho county would be required to furnish $200,000; the Baker-Cornucopia postroad, estimated cost is 415,000, the county's share of cost $150,000; Bakor-Bridgep'irt postroad, esti mated cos. being $108,000, the county's part of expense, being l100,O0Q; BakEliciil Spring po3troad lo c03r$5",UOU. The total estimated cost of the roads is $1,351,000, of which Baker county should oxpen i 5500,000. It can readily bo seen that the State and Government is required la expend nearly two dollars to overy one that Baker County will have to be placed upon the roads within the county. Another matter of importance in this connection is thn fact that the State Highway Commission takes over one-half of tho ex pense of maintaining these roads after thoy are built, thus releas ing a considerable sum of money which the County Court can spend upon tho othor roads, in the county. The bonds are to bo voted upon JTine 3 and are 20 year bonds, all or any part of which aroj'edeem able at the option of the county in 10 years, with interest n5t to exceed 5 per cent per annum. An assessment of one and a half mills on the present assessed val uation of the county will retire these bonds in less than 20 years. Tho other counties of tho state are clamoring for aid and nro willing to spend their monoy in cooporation with tho Stato and Government and it is now up to Bakor County to accept this of fer or allow the monoy which is available to go to tho progressive counties which are ready and wil ling and anxious to accept tho cooporation offered by tho State Highway Commission and tho Federal Government, Juno 3rd will toll tho story, Head the Wunt Column.
