In order that e ry. man be tween the ages of 18 and 36 years, either married orinxie, may have the opportunity of enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, every postmaster in Ore gon has been authorized to ex amine, accept and transfer men for this excellent branch of ser vice. The Marine Corps is the oldest branch of American service, is mentioned in the same breath with the Foreign Legion of France, the Texas Rangers, the Northwest Mounted Police and Pennsylvania StateConstaoulary. , Marines are specially trained, splendidly equipucd and fight as artillery, infantry, cavalry, sig- Large Class Graduates. The capacity of the Christian church was taxed to its utmost on Tuesday evening at the com mencement exercises of the 8th grade of the Richland school, and the audience voiced their approval of the program by frequent ap plause. The vocal selections by Miss Fern Chandler and the ad dress by Rev. Johnson were of exceptional merit. The xjiass in cluded eight girls and ono boy, namely: Gladys Johnson. Ruby Sauwters, Minnie Wright, Meda Matthews, Ethel Davis, Clarine Chandler, Leotia Bennehoff, Ruth McDowell and Morton Chapman. In recognition of the splendid record made by the Marines in the past and excellent achieve ments in the present war, con gress has authorized the increas ing of the Corps to 75,500 men in order that they may take over and .maintain a seperate section of trenches in France. Registered and unregistered men between the above mention ed ages who are desirous of en listing should do so immediately. Your postmaster will explain all about this splendid branch of ser vice. Ask him about it today. Red Cross Supplies Shipped. Richland auxiliary shipped the following goods to Baker chapter: 83 towels 10 wash cloths 17 benshirts 5 sweaters ' 12 pair sox 2 pa'r wristlets 1 quilt In acknowledging the receipt of the goods the officer in charge wrote: "Please express the! thanks of the Chapter to the; ladies of the Home Missionary' Society of the M. E. church South , for the quilt donated by them." Sparta Red Gross haveshipped to the Baker chapter 81 pajama suits, 84 towels, 6 tea towels, 6 convalescent robes, 20 bed jack ets and 6 wash cloths. Sparta Junior Red Cross has shipped 11 comfort bags, one baby layette and 1400 gun wipes, Service Flag Dedicated. The formal presentation and, dedication of a service flag to, Irvine Lodge No. 8G K. of P., .by Imbrie Temple No. 33 Pythian Sisters was witnessed by a large crwd at the K. P. hall last even-, ing. An appropriate program was rendered; the main feature, of which was a splendid address by Rev. J. M. Johnson. The flag carries five stars, one for. each member of the local lodge now in service, as follows: Past Chancellor G. E.
