C. C. St John, Manager, Richland, Oregon ONLY AMERICA CAN HELP. "On your tide are boundlet upplles of men, food, and mate rial; on thli tide a boundleu de mand for thslr help. "Our men aro war-weary and their nerves hava been strained by more than three years of hard, relentless toll. "Our position la critical, par ticularly until tht next harvest, but the United 8tates can save us. "You Americans have the men, the skill, and the material to save the allied cause." 8IR JOSEPH MACLAY. British Shipping Controller. Election Notes. Only a small vote was cast in Eagle Valley at the primary elec tion last Friday, and the same is true for county and state. M. D. Clifford will be Judge Anderson's opponent at the elec tion next fall, having beat Mrs sick by one vote. Kirby lost to Ritter by 196 votes. W. E. Bar ber lost to E. E.. Markur, so it appears that Eagle Valley will get but little recognition from the county court for a few more years. A. A. Smith will oppose D. M. Cartmill for state representative. A. B. Combs and John Allen are out for county clerk again. Senator Strayer and County Treasurer Pearson had no oppo sition. K. P. Anderson and Albert J. Blakesiey will try for sheriff. Not Coal Land.
